NBC<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg began by discussing a blood drive he participated in that was sponsored by the NBC program \u201cToday\u201d over the summer. NBC<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just have so much blood in me, and I feel like I should spill it,\u201d he joked. \u201cI really like doing it, and I don\u2019t know why.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m actually donating my kidney in six weeks,\u201d Eisenberg, 42, added. \u201cI really am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After \u201cToday\u201d host Craig Melvin called the \u201cReal Pain\u201d star\u2019s decision \u201camazing\u201d and \u201ca big jump\u201d from donating blood, Eisenberg revealed that he is scheduled to donate his kidney in less than two months.<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California, on March 2, 2025. NBC<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got, like, bitten by the blood donation bug. I love it,\u201d he explained. \u201cI\u2019m doing an altruistic donation in mid-December.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An altruistic donation, which is also known as a non-directed living donation, is when an individual donates an organ to a stranger,\u00a0per <a href=\"https:\/\/weillcornell.org\/services\/liver-transplantation-hepatobiliary-pancreatic-surgery\/living-donor-liver-transplantation-program\/non-directed-liver-donation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Weill Cornell Medicine<\/a>. The person receiving the organ is always selected by medical compatibility.<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg opened up about his upcoming kidney donation further during a separate interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/news\/jesse-eisenberg-donating-kidney-rcna240753\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Today.com<\/a> published Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg at the Fox Studio Lot in Los Angeles, California, on March 1, 2025. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s essentially risk-free and so needed,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cI think people will realize that it\u2019s a no-brainer, if you have the time and the inclination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cZombieland\u201d star went on to explain exactly how the process works.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s say person X needs a kidney in Kansas City, and their child or whoever was going to donate to them is, for whatever set of reasons, not a match, but somehow I am,\u201d he began. <\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg before taping \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\u201d on Oct. 29, 2025. Todd Owyoung\/NBC via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat person can still get my kidney, and hopefully that child of that person will still donate their kidney, right?\u201d Eisenberg continued. \u201cBut it goes to a bank where that person can find a match recipient, but it only works if there is basically an altruistic donor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the \u201cSocial Network\u201d star said that he first got the idea to donate around 10 years ago, it wasn\u2019t until recently that he had the opportunity to actually do it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was in the hospital the next day and went through a battery of tests, and I\u2019m now scheduled in mid-December,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg at the opening night of \u201cOperation Mincemeat\u201d at the Golden Theatre in New York City on March 20, 2025. Bruce Glikas\/WireImage<\/p>\n<p>As for those who might be scared to become altruistic kidney donors because someone in their own family might need a kidney at some point, Eisenberg clarified why that wouldn\u2019t be a problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way it works now is you can put a list of whoever you would like to be the first to be at the top of the list,\u201d\u00a0he shared regarding the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyregistry.com\/for-centers\/voucher-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">National Kidney Registry\u2019s<\/a> family voucher program. \u201cSo it\u2019s risk-free for my family, as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere during his appearance on the \u201cToday\u201d show this week, Eisenberg addressed why he chose not to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/01\/entertainment\/mark-zuckerberg-owns-exact-shirt-jesse-eisenberg-wore-in-the-social-network\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reprise his \u201cThe Social Network\u201d role<\/a> as Mark Zuckerberg for the 2010 film\u2019s upcoming \u201cThe Social Reckoning\u201d sequel.<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg also addressed why he chose not to reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg for \u201cThe Social Reckoning\u201d sequel during his appearance on the \u201cToday\u201d show on Oct. 30, 2025. NBC<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg said that he wasn\u2019t returning for \u201cThe Social Reckoning\u201d for \u201creasons that have nothing to do with how amazing the movie will be.\u201d NBC<\/p>\n<p>Following <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/30\/entertainment\/jesse-eisenberg-today-host-craig-melvin-have-awkward-exchange-over-mark-zuckerberg-role\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an awkward back-and-forth<\/a> with Melvin, the \u201cAdventureland\u201d star said that he wasn\u2019t returning for \u201creasons that have nothing to do with how amazing the movie will be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you play a character, you feel, you know, at some point you\u2019ve grown into something else,\u201d he acknowledged. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it\u2019s a really wonderful movie.
