HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 A man was arrested and now facing multiple charges after a video showed him brutally assaulting a 9-month-old Labrador mix, according to constables with Harris County Precinct 1.<\/p>\n

Gerald Allen Young II was arrested on two counts of felony cruelty to a non-livestock animal by means of torture on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The video footage showed him repeatedly punching the young dog before lifting him up and violently tossing him down a hallway in the 2600 block of Gramercy Street in southwest Houston. <\/p>\n

Officials said the injured puppy was rescued earlier this week and is now under the care of the Houston SPCA\u2019s veterinary team at their on-campus Animal Hospital. <\/p>\n

The Houston SPCA veterinarians report that he suffered from three fractured ribs and a pneumothorax. He is currently in stable condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a heartbreaking example of senseless cruelty,\u201d said Dr. Roberta Westbrook, senior vice president of veterinary services at Houston SPCA. \u201cThere is no doubt that filing a cruelty report saved this young dog\u2019s life.\u201d <\/p>\n

A court date has been set for next week, where a judge will determine custody of the dog. <\/p>\n

Anyone who witnesses suspected animal abuse or neglect is encouraged to report it immediately by calling 713-869-SPCA (7722) or visiting HoustonSPCA.org<\/a> , where video or photos can be uploaded.<\/p>\n
