{"id":345084,"date":"2025-10-31T07:49:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T07:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/345084\/"},"modified":"2025-10-31T07:49:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T07:49:12","slug":"disney-content-to-go-dark-on-youtubetv-after-contract-talks-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/345084\/","title":{"rendered":"Disney content to go dark on YouTubeTV after contract talks collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Photo illustration of the YouTube TV logo displayed on a smartphone, with the YouTube logo in the background.<\/p>\n<p>Nurphoto | Nurphoto | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Content from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/DIS\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Walt Disney Company<\/a>, including channels like ABC and ESPN, was removed from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GOOGL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google<\/a>&#8216;s YouTube TV on Thursday after the two companies failed to renew a streaming contract.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to reach a fair deal, and starting today, Disney programming will not be available on YouTube TV,&#8221; the platform <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/YouTubeTV\/status\/1984097064276656264\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said in a statement<\/a> Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>More than 20 channels, including ABC and ESPN, and Disney content recordings would be removed from YouTube TV, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>The two sides had been engaged in negotiations but were unable to reach a new distribution agreement before their existing contract expired Oct. 30 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.<\/p>\n<p>Disney did not immediately respond to a request for further comment. The mass media and entertainment conglomerate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/23\/disney-espn-youtube-tv-network-dispute.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was the first to warn<\/a> about the potential content removal last week.<\/p>\n<p>In a Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.youtube\/inside-youtube\/disney-youtube-tv\/?sjid=11269581620476450138-NA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement<\/a> on its official blog, YouTube argued Disney had &#8220;used the threat of a blackout on YouTube TV as a negotiating tactic to force deal terms that would raise prices on our customers,&#8221; and that Disney was now following through on that threat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will not agree to terms that disadvantage our members while benefiting Disney&#8217;s own live TV products,&#8221; YouTube TV said in a post on its <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/youtubetv\/answer\/16654675?sjid=11269581620476450138-NA&amp;visit_id=638974791067199872-2404025256&amp;p=disney&amp;rd=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">help center webpage<\/a>. Disney&#8217;s live TV offerings include Hulu + Live TV and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/FUBO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fubo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know how disruptive it is to lose channels you enjoy, and we&#8217;re committed to continuing to work with Disney to reach an agreement,&#8221; YouTube said in its statement, adding that if the content is unavailable for an extended period of time, the company will offer members a $20 credit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>YouTube TV pays broadcasters to stream their channels and has been engaged in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/23\/disney-espn-youtube-tv-network-dispute.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">several tense negotiations<\/a> over contract renewals in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>Last month,\u00a0\u00a0content was nearly removed from YouTube TV before the companies reached an agreement after a temporary extension, preventing shows like &#8220;Sunday Night Football&#8221; and &#8220;America&#8217;s Got Talent&#8221; from being pulled.<\/p>\n<p>CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/23\/disney-espn-youtube-tv-network-dispute.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> last week that Disney was willing to offer YouTube TV a distribution agreement that would give some subscribers access to Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ for no extra charge. Disney has previously offered similar terms to Charter, the largest U.S. pay TV provider by subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>However, YouTube asked for Disney&#8217;s streaming content to be ingested into YouTube TV, giving customers the ability to view programming on Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ without leaving the platform, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Disney had rejected that proposal and had no plans to budge on the request, people familiar with the company&#8217;s thinking told CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>The recent clash between Disney and YouTube has an added twist, after YouTube hired former Disney distribution executive Justin Connolly earlier this year, prompting Disney to file a breach-of-contract lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Connolly has recused himself from the discussions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/23\/disney-espn-youtube-tv-network-dispute.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CNBC previously reported<\/a>, according to the people familiar with the process.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube is the top U.S. media distributor by audience engagement, capturing over 13% of TV watch-time in July, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nielsen.com\/news-center\/2025\/streaming-cranks-up-the-heat-in-july-accounts-for-nearly-half-of-all-tv-viewing-in-nielsens-the-gauge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to Nielsen<\/a>. It is also on track to be the biggest media company by revenue in 2025, beating\u00a0Disney,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/04\/23\/google-youtube-disney-tiktok.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">analysts at MoffettNathanson<\/a> told CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>Disclosure: Comcast is the parent company of NBCUniversal, which owns CNBC.
