At a buzzy ceremony held yesterday at West Edge in Chelsea Market—and hosted by none other than pizza evangelist Scott Wiener—Anthony Mangieri’s downtown shrine to Neapolitan perfection clinched the No. 1 spot for the third time.

RECOMMENDED: The best pizza in NYC includes simple slices and elaborate whole pies

Known for its obsessive attention to dough (Mangieri won’t even open shop unless he’s present to prep it himself), Una Pizza Napoletana has become a global benchmark thanks to its wood-fired pies, made three at a time with naturally leavened dough and not a speck of overtopping in sight.

Coming in hot at No. 2 is Pizzeria Sei in Los Angeles, where William Joo took home the Pizza Maker of the Year award. San Francisco legend Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, from 13-time world champion Tony Gemignani, landed in third. Other chart-toppers include Jay’s in Kenmore (No. 4), Ribalta in NYC (No. 5) and Robert’s in Chicago (No. 6). Miami had a double showing at No. 10 with La Leggenda and ‘O Munaciello, the latter also winning Best Fried Food honors.

But New York didn’t just dominate the whole-pie category. In the highly competitive Best Pizza Slice rankings, Williamsburg staple L’Industrie Pizzeria snagged first place, thanks to its masterfully minimalist slices, including the much-Instagrammed burrata-topped square. Co-founders Massimo Laveglia and Nick Baglivo also took home Pizza of the Year for their New Yorker Pie.

Other notable accolades: Ken’s Artisan Pizza in Portland earned Best Dessert List, Ribalta took Best Wine List and Zeneli in New Haven claimed Best Pasta Proposal. A special lifetime Icon Award went to John Arena of Truly Pizza in Dana Point.

In total, New York racked up 20 spots on the list of 99 U.S. pizzerias—a reminder that while America may be full of pizza innovation, the Big Apple still runs the dough game.

The top 12 U.S. pizzerias now advance to the 50 Top Pizza World showdown in Naples this September. Until then, consider this your green light to line up on Orchard Street—and maybe order two pies. Mangieri wouldn’t mind.

Cue the parmesan confetti.
