He decided to search for restaurant recommendations in the Michelin Guide app but was puzzled to find the city missing from the renowned international dining franchise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cI think with the proximity to New York, Philly doesn\u2019t get the credit it deserves \u2026 You type in Philadelphia \u2014 zero results. And that, to me, is insane,\u201d said Keeley, who plays the biker gang villain Jayson Wilkes in the Brad Ingelsby show that concluded earlier this month. \u201c[Philly restaurants] win James Beard Awards all the time, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">But that didn\u2019t stop him and the rest of the cast from exploring the region\u2019s vibrant food scene during their roughly six-month stay last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">The actors, some from as far as South Africa, the Dominican Republic, England and Ireland, embedded themselves in Philadelphia for a summer where they hung out with locals, listened to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/entertainment\/tv\/task-delco-accent-susanne-sulby-20251008.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">famous Delco accent<\/a>, sang karaoke, and, Keeley said, \u201cate like kings all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">With a little guidance from South Philly-raised \u201cTask\u201d director\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/columnists\/how-hustle-director-jeremiah-zagar-turned-philly-basketball-film-into-an-endearing-bromance-20220603.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeremiah Zagar<\/a>, many of the actors became Philly foodies. Keeley rattled off some of his favorites: \u201cWe were in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/columnists\/wilder-resturant-review-rittenhouse-philadelphia-20220709.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wilder<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/columnists\/pearl-mary-philadelphia-restaurant-review-craig-laban-20230717.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pearl &amp; Mary<\/a>. We were in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/restaurants\/friday-saturday-sunday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Friday Saturday Sunday<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/philly\/food\/20151129_LaBan_review_Bud_and_Marilyns_Phila.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bud &amp; Marilyn\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0\u2026 It was fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">Ingelsby, the Berwyn native also behind \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/entertainment\/kate-winslet-interview-mare-of-easttown-20210414.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mare of Easttown<\/a>,\u201d shoots locally so his portrayals of the region feel authentic on-screen. As a result, his actors get a chance to learn about the community they represent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">Sometimes, those lessons are learned the hard way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">Last year, British actor Fabien Frankel, who plays the DJ turned Delaware County detective Anthony Grasso, went viral for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/nation-world\/fabien-frankel-philadelphia-cheesesteak-angelos-explained-20240621.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">describing a cheesesteak<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/restaurants\/angelos-pizzeria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Angelo\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0as a \u201cbunch of meat and cheese in a sort-of baguette.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cWe went back to Philly and people on the street were like, \u2018Dude, you don\u2019t know how to describe a Philly cheesesteak.\u2019 All right, brother, I\u2019m sorry, but I\u2019m getting it right 1761925330,\u201d said the \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d actor, who blamed the bread mix-up on his French heritage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">Today, the list of Philly restaurants he loves includes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/restaurants\/fiorella\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiorella<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/restaurants\/south-philly-barbacoa-cristina-martinez-casa-mexico-20240401.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Philly Barbacoa<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/restaurants\/alpen-rose\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alpen Rose<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/restaurants\/kalaya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kalaya<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/restaurants\/vernick-fish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vernick Fish<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">The baguette flack notwithstanding, \u201cI can\u2019t speak higher about Philadelphia as a place and the people we met,\u201d said Frankel. \u201cIt\u2019s a very embracing culture \u2014 an embracing food culture, an embracing artistic culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"From left, Mark Ruffalo, Silvia Dionicio and Phoebe Fox in &quot;Task.&quot; (HBO\/TNS)\" width=\"2400\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ENTER-TV-TASK-PHILLY-MEMORIES-2-MCT.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"11771912\" \/>From left, Mark Ruffalo, Silvia Dionicio and Phoebe Fox in &#8220;Task.&#8221; (HBO\/TNS)<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">When in Philly, Irish actor Alison Oliver, who plays the hilariously messy state trooper Lizzie Stover, jumped on a bus tour, visited Lancaster to see the Amish, and loved learning about Philly\u2019s arts scene \u2014 even becoming a frequent guest at one South Phlly restaurant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cMy favorite place was the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/opera-victor-cafe-restaurant-singing-aria-south-philadelphia-coronavirus-20200521.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Victor Cafe<\/a>, where the staff are opera singers, and they sing to you while you\u2019re receiving pasta. I think I went there, like, eight times, genuinely,\u201d she said, chuckling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">Though the on-screen drama was dark and tense, there were a lot of laughs on set. Silvia Dionicio, the emerging star playing Emily, the adopted daughter of Mark Ruffalo\u2019s protagonist Tom, recalled Ruffalo as an especially comical scene partner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cIn the first episode, when he\u2019s pretending to be drunk, [Ruffalo] kept doing this thing where he would pretend to throw himself from the stairs,\u201d she said. \u201cI was like, \u2018You\u2019re going to give me a heart attack.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">Unlike many of her fellow cast members, Dionicio had a deep familiarity with the region; she has even performed in Philly with her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/philly\/entertainment\/music\/20150707_Mexican_music_scene_growing_in_Philly.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Son Jarocho<\/a>\u00a0band, Son Papalotl. As a kid growing up in the Dominican Republic, she visited her family in Easton and the Poconos every summer to learn English. When her aunt came to visit the \u201cTask\u201d set one day, she asked to be an extra.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cBrad was like, \u2018Absolutely!\u2019 My aunt, my cousin, and my uncle are extras in a scene with the Dark Hearts,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">The familial vibe on set was also something that Tom Pelphrey, who delivers a complex and tender performance as the kind-hearted thief Robbie, experienced. The \u201cOzark\u201d actor grew up in Howell Township, New Jersey, and attended Rutgers University. For \u201cTask,\u201d he and his fiancee, \u201cFlight Attendant\u201d actor Kaley Cuoco, rented a house in the area and his family got to spend a lot of time with them at home and on location.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cMy mom came out all the time to visit, and my grandmother, my aunts, my friends from home came out,\u201d Pelphrey said. \u201cIt was very special to me, having moved to California a few years ago, to be on the East Coast, which I love, which is in my veins and my bones, and get to share this experience with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cIt was fun, like the joking, the playfulness of all the guys and girls in the crew \u2014 that just reminds me of the people I grew up with. Like in so many ways, it felt like being home,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cThis is a real family show on-screen, and off-screen,\u201d said Emilia Jones, the British actor who played Robbie\u2019s niece Maeve with an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/entertainment\/tv\/emilia-jones-task-hbo-delco-accent-20250926.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unforgettable Delco accent<\/a>. \u201cBrad\u2019s such a family guy, and he\u2019s just so inclusive of everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">Jones, along with Frankel, Keeley and other \u201cTask\u201d folks, often went out dancing in the city and did karaoke. She lived in Rittenhouse Square and ate \u201cthe best food ever,\u201d including the legendary burger at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/restaurants\/a-kitchen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a.kitchen<\/a>\u00a0and the pastries at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/food\/jaime-matines-cafe-french-pastry-philadelphia-20221110.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J\u2019aime<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">Overall, the actors expressed a lot of love for Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u201cWhen something is a really good experience, you have a really warm nostalgia about the place. The thought of coming back [to Philly], or going to the Italian Market \u2014 it just makes me feel so warm and happy,\u201d said Oliver. \u201cWhen I think of the time that we had, I just have such fond memories of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"krtText\">\u00a92025 The Philadelphia Inquirer.
