CHICAGO \u2014 Mitchell Robinson offered neither clarity nor explanation for his four-game absence to start the season, instead backhanding questions about the confusing load management plan<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI ain\u2019t telling you nothing,\u201d Robinson said Friday in his first comments since his three-week hiatus for what the Knicks called \u201cleft ankle injury load management.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pressed with a couple follow-ups, Robinson said his missed games were \u201cpart of the plan,\u201d but he\u2019s unaware if it will be in place all season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d Robinson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Robinson logged minutes in the opening three preseason games but was mysteriously shut down until being upgraded to questionable for Friday\u2019s game against the Bulls. <\/p>\n

Coach Mike Brown has maintained that Robinson was never reinjured and his DNPs were part of a load management plan, even though it defies logic to play in preseason and miss games that actually count.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Robinson also denied there was a setback.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNah, it\u2019s part of the plan,\u201d Robinson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The details of that \u201cplan,\u201d however, aren\u2019t being shared or explained. Brown stated it\u2019s dictated by the medical staff. Robinson said he\u2019s involved.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Robinson underwent a second surgery to his ankle in May 2024<\/a>, then missed all but 17 games last season. He returned with a stated goal of maintaining his long-term health and will likely become an unrestricted free agent next summer since there appears to be no traction on an extension.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Given his history and plan to accumulate healthy DNPs, Robinson can\u2019t be relied upon as a steady contributor. <\/p>\n

Still, he was on track to be the starting center and factors significantly toward the Knicks\u2019 hope of winning a championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBeen stressful, stressful to watch,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cWhat I bring a lot to the table, we\u2019re missing right now.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Robinson\u2019s game \u2014 he\u2019s a rebounding and defensive specialist who doesn\u2019t get offensive opportunities outside of dunks or free throws \u2014 shouldn\u2019t require rhythm to recapture. But once he returns, the big questions are, \u201cFor how long?\u201d and, \u2018Is the conditioning good enough for Brown\u2019s system?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
