{"id":346945,"date":"2025-11-01T02:17:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T02:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/346945\/"},"modified":"2025-11-01T02:17:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T02:17:17","slug":"list-of-nyc-restaurants-giving-out-free-food-during-the-government-shutdown-and-snap-benefit-lapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/346945\/","title":{"rendered":"List of NYC Restaurants Giving Out Free Food During the Government Shutdown and SNAP Benefit Lapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of this writing, the government shutdown is still in effect, quickly becoming the longest one in history, a title currently held by the shutdown that happened during the first Trump administration in December of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Federal workers and military members\u00a0are affected by the current situation, which is made even more drastic by the fact that, as of November 1, funding\u00a0for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be suspended indefinitely, disrupting nearly 42 million Americans, over three million of whom reside right here in New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, Governor Kathy Hochul declared <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-declares-state-emergency-and-initiates-new-actions-response-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a state of emergency<\/a>, committing an additional $65 million in new State funds for \u201cemergency food assistance that will reinforce New York\u2019s network of vital food bank and pantry partners and provide about 40 million meals to hungry New Yorkers.\u201d This funding will be allocated to food banks, pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. As a relief, restaurants in our local community are stepping in to help as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Several restaurants around New York are providing free food for members of the community and hosting food drives in order to fill the gap. Below is a running list of\u00a0local eateries\u00a0that are providing assistance during this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>&#13;<\/p>\n<li><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"http:\/\/l.instagram.com\/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.belairediner.nyc%2F%3Ffbclid%3DPAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaf_fvk94l-H_JP7zJyzEbeu__S30bkxUBxT0NKJXdPwNdgI2gyzKXdXqbTr0g_aem_f7dr8I_N8AKNvfDyQjmFWQ&amp;e=AT0ZQI-W-DYJ822V5PhQA9jTcOT-WWQort_udZPlPUqYwpkB3gwZ7DHwxJcbclgr0HqqojyR5ojJ3u59IYEvGtGxVgoKH9tG6ytOXMRHNA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bel Aire Diner<\/a>: On Monday, November 17, Astoria\u2019s Bel Aire Diner will be giving away\u00a0100 meals starting at 5pm. This is in collaboration with influencer Mike Schulte.<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/chefjj\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">FieldTrip<\/a>: On Monday, November 3, Harlem\u2019s FieldTrip location is feeding the first 100 people to show up with their SNAP card. This is in collaboration with influencer Mike Schulte.\u00a0<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/gunthers_bk\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Gunther\u2019s<\/a>: On Monday, November 10, Gunther\u2019s will be giving away 100 bowls of soup starting at 4pm. This is in collaboration with influencer Mike Schulte.\u00a0<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kyobrooklyn\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kyo Brooklyn<\/a>: On November 1, Kyo Brooklyn will be offering a complimentary croissant and drip coffee to anyone who shows their SNAP\/EBT Card.\u00a0<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DQaFiM2jwMc\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Je t\u2019aime P\u00e2tisserie<\/a>: Starting November 1, Bed Stuy\u2019s Je t\u2019aime P\u00e2tisserie will be providing coffee, tea and a pastry if you show your SNAP\/EBT card. You can also donate a breakfast to someone in need via the website.\u00a0<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/primabrooklyn\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Prima<\/a>: Brooklyn\u2019s Prima is accepting shelf-stable donations starting Saturday. Every week, they will be donating goods to <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.onelovecommunityfridge.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">One Love Community Fridge<\/a>. <\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DQZ-49LERrf\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Welcome Home<\/a>: Bed-Stuy bakery and coffee shop, Welcome Home is accepting non-perishable canned food items and baby products. All of the goods will be donated to John Wesley United Methodist Church\u2019s food pantry.\u00a0<\/li>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will be updating this list periodically.
