“Better late than never.” That’s what this Independence Heights homeowner said after finally getting the city to clean up a neighborhood nuisance.<\/p>\n
HOUSTON \u2014 An Independence Heights homeowner finally got relief this week after Houston city workers cleaned up an overgrown right-of-way and removed illegally dumped trash from an abandoned property on East 32nd Street\u2014more than two weeks after she first contacted KHOU 11<\/a> about the neighborhood nuisance.<\/p>\n Bobbie Brockman reached out to the news station after contacting 311 dozens of times about the deteriorating conditions near her home. Following KHOU 11’s inquiries to Houston Public Works and other city departments, crews cleared the overgrown brush and most of the illegally dumped trash, and left a violation notice at the site.<\/p>\n “I am so grateful for Channel 11 because when I called you, you just came right away, and I appreciate that,” Brockman said.<\/p>\n While the cleanup addresses the immediate eyesore, the abandoned house on the property remains a more complicated issue that still needs resolution.<\/p>\n Brockman, a homeowner and taxpayer in the neighborhood, expressed relief at the progress.\u00a0<\/p>\n “It got done, it got done \u2014 so, better late than never, and, I mean, to see this \u2014 it’s just wonderful because who wants to live like that? We pay taxes, we’re homeowners, who really wants to live like that?”<\/p>\n When asked what advice she’d give other citizens facing similar problems, Brockman’s answer was clear: “Call channel 11, call channel 11 \u2014 they will help you.”<\/p>\n
