Rachel Griffin-Allison calls \u201cboth a statement of sacred resistance that sends a message to all that \u201cYou will not be erased. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>The church, located at the intersection of Oak Lawn Avenue and Cedar Springs Road, decided to paint the steps in the wake of Gov. Greg Abbott\u2019s order to Texas cities to remove all rainbow crosswalks or risk losing federal funds. Griffin-Allison said doing so was not a political act but instead a pastoral act because \u201cGod calls love to be visible, and love belongs in public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new steps will be consecrated in a special ceremony at noon Sunday, Nov. 2, following Oak Lawn UMC\u2019s morning worship services.
