{"id":347459,"date":"2025-11-01T07:29:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T07:29:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/347459\/"},"modified":"2025-11-01T07:29:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T07:29:21","slug":"giant-hail-hits-south-east-queensland-as-region-braces-for-more-severe-thunderstorms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/347459\/","title":{"rendered":"Giant hail hits south-east Queensland as region braces for more severe thunderstorms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Parts of south-east Queensland have been hit by giant hailstones, lightning and rain, with the region on alert for more storm activity, including damaging winds and potential flash flooding into Saturday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The Bureau of Meteorology issued severe thunderstorm warnings with forecast giant hail and potentially destructive winds parts of the south-east, including<strong> <\/strong>Esk, north of Brisbane, and the Sunshine Coast at 5pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It is understood at least one person in Esk was taken to hospital in a stable condition after receiving a head injury in the hailstorm, while paramedics were assessing several other people for potential injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Thousands of people have been left without power after severe storms began moving<strong> <\/strong>through the state&#8217;s south-east on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">At Pratten, west of Warwick in the Southern Downs region, 9-centimetre giant hail \u2014 large enough to cause damage to cars and homes \u2014 was reported about 1pm.<\/p>\n<p>Loading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">At MJ&#8217;s Cafe in the rural township, about two-and-a-half hours west of Brisbane, opening day turned chaotic when &#8220;tennis ball-sized hail&#8221; hit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Owner Richard Manley said the roof was entirely &#8220;smashed in&#8221; when the storm moved quickly through town.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Front yard with hail scattered throughout\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5244d4c566353bb0d074d45ea5c67b52\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Mr Manley says he has been left with a huge clean-up, with &#8220;almost tennis ball-sized&#8221; hail falling.
