\n\tAfter 20 years of running Paddy\u2019s Pub with the gang, Glenn Howerton<\/a> has had his share of anxiety about being part of the longest-running live-action comedy series<\/a> in the US.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor, who plays toxic narcissist Dennis Reynolds, admitted he was worried It\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia<\/a> would \u201cwear out our welcome\u201d around the time Season 12 of the FXX<\/a> comedy went into production in 2016.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was worried that maybe, we had sort of peaked or something, and I just was like, we\u2019ve been doing this for a long time and I think I was also anxious,\u201d he said at PaleyLive\u2019s 20th anniversary celebration for the show, according to Entertainment Weekly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI had not figured out yet how to stretch myself and be able to do other things that I wanted to do with my career outside of the show,\u201d added Howerton. \u201cI just hadn\u2019t figured out how to do that yet, and I was aching to do other things and so I was starting to feel a little boxed in, frankly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHowerton emphasized that he \u201cnever lost any appreciation for the show,\u201d adding, \u201cI just thought like maybe we should\u2014and then they were like, \u2018We don\u2019t want to end it,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Oh okay, well I can\u2019t stop you.\u2019 And then after that, I booked A.P. Bio.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe previously caused speculation he was leaving the show when Dennis deserted the gang<\/a> after finding out he fathered a child at the end of Season 12, returning for Seasons 13 and 14 as an actor, but not as part of the writers\u2019 room.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough the cliffhanger came around the time he began filming his NBC sitcom A.P. Bio (2018-\u201921), Howerton clarified on Twitter at the time that \u201cwhether Dennis comes back or not<\/a> has nothing to do\u201d with his other show.<\/p>\n
