{"id":347921,"date":"2025-11-01T12:07:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T12:07:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/347921\/"},"modified":"2025-11-01T12:07:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T12:07:21","slug":"texas-wesleyan-opens-moritz-fieldhouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/347921\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Wesleyan Opens Moritz Fieldhouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Texas Wesleyan\u2019s athletic program took a giant leap this week with the formal opening of the Moritz Fieldhouse, marking a defining moment for the evolution of university athletics, officials say.<\/p>\n<p>The state-of-the-art facility is designed to serve as a home base for football, flag football, soccer, and track and field with dedicated locker rooms, meeting spaces, and amenities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis facility changes everything for our athletes,\u201d said Athletic Director Ricky Dotson in a statement. \u201cIt gives our teams a central home where they can train, prepare, and build camaraderie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore importantly, it shows our current and future student-athletes that Texas Wesleyan is fully invested in their success academically, athletically, and personally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moritz Dealerships provided the signature gift to begin construction. John David Moritz, president of the dealership, was in attendance at the ribbon-cutting.<\/p>\n<p>Said Moritiz: &#8220;The fieldhouse affirms our commitment to the students, athletes, and staff of Texas Wesleyan. We\u2019re proud to stand alongside the university.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The opening coincides with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthinc.com\/commentary\/texas-wesleyan-university-turns-135-all-of-fort-worth-is-inv\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Link opens in new window (university&#039;s 135th birthday)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">university&#8217;s 135th birthday<\/a>. Wesleyan is the oldest university in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Moritz Fieldhouse embodies our belief that excellence begins with opportunity,\u201d university President Emily Messer said.<\/p>\n<p>Wesleyan now boasts perhaps the nicest \u2014 certainly one of the nicest \u2014 athletics facilities\u00a0of this scale in the NAIA. One day they\u2019ll be able to say the same for its planned football stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The completion and opening marks another step in a football stadium on campus. Stadium turf and lights have been installed. The university will next begin building permanent stadium seating to create a true home-field experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thankful for our administration, alumni, and donors who helped make this possible,\u201d said football coach Brad Sherrod. \u201cIt\u2019s on us to honor that by how we play and take care of what\u2019s been given to us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a big step forward, but we can\u2019t stop here.
