{"id":348416,"date":"2025-11-01T17:13:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T17:13:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/348416\/"},"modified":"2025-11-01T17:13:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T17:13:11","slug":"espn-puts-college-gameday-on-x-as-disney-youtube-tv-clash-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/348416\/","title":{"rendered":"ESPN Puts College GameDay on X as Disney-YouTube TV Clash Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCan Pat McAfee help <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/disney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_disney_1\" data-tag=\"disney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disney<\/a> prevail over <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/youtube-tv\/\" id=\"auto-tag_youtube-tv_1\" data-tag=\"youtube-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube TV<\/a> in TV\u2019s never-ending carriage wars? <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDisney\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/espn\/\" id=\"auto-tag_espn_1\" data-tag=\"espn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN<\/a> said it would make one of its most popular sports telecasts, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/college-gameday\/\" id=\"auto-tag_college-gameday_1\" data-tag=\"college-gameday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College GameDay<\/a>,\u201d widely available via the X social-media platform as the entertainment conglomerate <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/youtube-tv-blackout-loses-abc-espn-disney-networks-1236566477\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grapples with a blackout of its networks on YouTube TV<\/a>, one of a growing number of carriage battles traditional entertainment companies are having with the increasingly popular content distributor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe understand the frustration that some fans are feeling about missing out, so we are making this gesture with them in mind,\u201d Disney said in a statement. ESPN has broadcast \u201cCollege GameDay\u201d on Saturday mornings during the football season since 1987.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cCollege GameDay\u201d is one of ESPN\u2019s veteran hits, a show that has long enjoyed advertising support from The Home Depot and that has been turbo-charged in recent years by <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/tv\/news\/pat-mcafee-espn-critics-peace-1236123384\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the addition of maverick sports host Pat McAfee.<\/a> Indeed, on X, the broadcast will appear via McAfee\u2019s feed. Fans may also find the telecast at ESPN\u2019s mobile app. In both cases, fans can watch the show without having to rely on a subscription to a cable or satellite company, or other means of video distribution, to gain access.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tESPN said on Tuesday that last week\u2019s broadcast generated 2.5 million viewers between 9 a.m. and noon, and 3.2 million viewers in its final hour after 12 p.m. The broadcast, ESPN said, was its most-watched ninth-week broadcast ever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDisney may have hopes of spurring sports fans who are YouTube TV subscribers to find their match-ups in other fashion. ESPN earlier this year launched a new streaming service that makes all the content from its portfolio of channels available to people who don\u2019t subscribe in traditional fashion \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/disney-fox-espn-launch-sports-streaming-cable-cord-cutting-1236494645\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a reversal after years of trying to get consumers to keep old-school ESPN<\/a>. Disney also makes content from other networks available on Disney+ and Hulu by various methods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe economics of sport are no game to companies like Disney. The company and many of its rivals \u2014 including NBCUniversal, Amazon Prime Video, Fox, Paramount GLobal and Netflix \u2014 are investing increasing amount of money to offer sports more widely and in more prominent fashion. The match-ups represent the one programming format that continues to attract the large, live audiences that advertiser crave in an era when more consumers are gravitating to streaming their video favorites at moments of their own choosing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYouTube TV removed Disney\u2019s networks late on October 30, after the two sides could not come to terms on a renewal that would keep ABC, ESPN and other Disney properties on the internet TV service. The main sticking point is price \u2014 Disney is asking for rate hikes that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/google\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google<\/a>\u00a0isn\u2019t willing to agree to. At the same time, Google has been trying to push TV companies to accept new tiers of programming that could result in some subscribers opting to drop receiving certain networks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tYouTube TV has said that if Disney\u2019s channels remain unavailable for \u201can extended period of time,\u201d it will offer subscribers a one-time $20 credit. YouTube TV\u2019s base subscription plan costs $82.99 per month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDisney is the latest in a series of media companies to square off with Google over YouTube TV in recent months. Others that have fought with the company include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/paramount-youtube-tv-reach-distribution-deal-averting-blackout-1236309622\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paramount Global\u00a0(now Paramount Skydance)<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/youtube-tv-fox-corp-deal-extension-fox-news-blackout-1236498996\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox Corp.<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/nbcuniversal-youtube-tv-google-deal-relaunched-nbc-sports-network-1236537349\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBCUniversal<\/a>.
