<\/p>\nA large-scale distribution event was taking place in the yellow lot at NRG Stadium Saturday. <\/p>\n
HOUSTON \u2014 As the government shutdown continues, the Houston Food Bank is helping families in need with large-scale food distribution events, including one Saturday morning at NRG Stadium\u2019s yellow lot.<\/p>\n
Thousands of people arrived to receive food, though organizers managed the flow in increments to keep lines moving efficiently.<\/p>\n
Volunteers worked nonstop, loading trunks with boxes of fresh produce, bags of potatoes, gallons of milk, and proteins. The effort is a partnership between the Houston Texans and the Houston Food Bank, and more than 5,000 families had registered to receive assistance.<\/p>\n
Ms. Felicia, a SNAP recipient who arrived early with her son and grandson.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cEven if you’re getting a small amount, a small amount can go a long way,\u201d she told reporter Michelle Choi. \u201cIt can stretch, you know what I’m saying, and that’s a meal that you can make every day for you, your children, and you don’t have to go hungry.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also expressed gratitude for the volunteers and organizers, noting that the food will mean a great deal to her family.<\/p>\n
The distribution continues until 1 p.m., and those who have not yet registered can still do so, though organizers caution that showing up without registration may result in losing your spot.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
