Disney\u2019s 2017 film \u201cCoco\u201d is a modern classic, a lush, colorful, gorgeous tale of family, love and loss that centers around the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos.<\/p>\n

Dia de Los Muertos is observed annually on Nov. 1 and 2, and to mark the holiday, two spots in Tempe are hosting free screenings of \u201cCoco.\u201d<\/p>\n

First up is a Saturday, Nov. 1 showing at Arizona State University\u2019s Mountain America Stadium. Bring blankets and pillows to watch the movie on the field with family and friends. Doors open at 5 p.m. for the 6 p.m. screening. There\u2019s no cost to attend but registration is required<\/a>. When you register, you can also honor loved ones who have passed on by contributing to the ASU 365 Community Union Digital Ofrenda. Share photos<\/a> and short messages to be part of this special tribute, which will be displayed on the big screen before the movie.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Nov. 2, Pollack Tempe Cinemas will offer two free screenings of the film at 5 and 5:30 p.m. Seating is limited and tickets are first-come, first-serve. The event will also include a live performance\u00a0by musical group Mariachi Continental Azteca, and specialty snacks and themed treats available for purchase. <\/p>\n

The \u201cCoco\u201d event marks the kickoff of Pollack Tempe Cinemas\u2019 Cine en Espa\u00f1ol concept, a new weekly film series celebrating Spanish-language cinema. Following the free opening night, Cine en Espa\u00f1ol will continue on Sundays at 5 p.m. with Spanish-language favorites and family classics. Tickets for all regular series showings are $5 each, with themed snacks and a live emcee at every event.<\/p>\n
