{"id":349222,"date":"2025-11-02T01:10:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-02T01:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/349222\/"},"modified":"2025-11-02T01:10:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-02T01:10:11","slug":"philadelphians-protest-snap-halt-during-government-shutdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/349222\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphians protest SNAP halt during government shutdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Activists and protesters gathered at 58th and Market streets in West Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon, demanding the restoration and expansion of SNAP benefits, which help nearly one-third of the city\u2019s residents pay for groceries.\n<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/snap-freeze-lawsuit-food-aid-deadline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two federal judges ruled<\/a> that the Trump administration must use contingency funds to continue payments for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, amid the U.S. government shutdown.\n<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear how quickly the funding, which was set to dry up Saturday for the first time in the <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/snap-benefits-grocery-aid-history-explainer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">program\u2019s more than 60-year history<\/a>, will be available to recipients.
