{"id":34948,"date":"2025-07-03T09:33:20","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T09:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/34948\/"},"modified":"2025-07-03T09:33:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T09:33:20","slug":"nyc-dmv-workers-accused-of-pay-for-license-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/34948\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC DMV workers accused of pay-for-license scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Queens driving school and multiple Staten Island DMV workers conspired in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/nyc-transit\/dmv-road-test-scam-staten-island-07012025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pay-for-license scheme<\/a> that handed out hundreds of driver\u2019s licenses to unqualified New Yorkers in exchange for money, authorities announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/crime-safety\/2025\/07\/da-dmv-fraud-scheme-on-staten-island-issued-fake-drivers-licenses-officials-say.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">T&amp;E Driving School in Flushing<\/a> advertised itself to Chinese immigrants and charged them $1,600 to $2,000 for a license, the Staten Island Advance reported.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the school would then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/staten-island\/staten-island-dmv-driving-school-drivers-license-fraud\/6322984\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pay off DMV workers at three locations on Staten Island<\/a>, according to WNBC. Sometimes the scheme involved imposters taking road tests, and sometimes the DMV workers would simply issue the licenses, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo many people have gotten driver\u2019s licenses because of corruption, because of theft,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/StatenIslandDA\/posts\/pfbid0uAbokH5zNJnhWpCbzpL7CLZMmmDuuuiWxPJ5skzz2tFFxjkecACnfqd6yxxPER1al\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon said<\/a> Tuesday at a press conference. \u201cCountless individuals are driving on our roads without demonstrating the skills necessary to do it safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McMahon\u2019s office used cameras at the DMV testing sites and an undercover police officer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/new-york-state-department-of-motor-vehicles-drivers-license-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unravel the scheme<\/a>, WCBS reported.
