Learn more about this month’s honoree below.

Tyson McNeil

Accolades: Tyson McNeil leads Northern Nevada competition with 2,433 passing yards and 36 touchdowns against four interceptions through nine games this season. Spanish Springs is one win away from the program’s first undefeated regular-season in school history. Last season, McNeil led the Northern 5A-II with 2,495 passing yards while completing 201-of-310 attempts and throwing 20 touchdowns against just three interceptions.

Story in short: The Spanish Springs signal caller has emerged as one of the most efficient passers in the state this season. McNeil has helped guide the Cougars to a league title and No.1 seed heading into playoffs after a 46-14 victory over Bishop Manogue last week. Though nine games, McNeil has completed 193-of-258 attempts, throwing 36 touchdowns against four interceptions. Standing at 5’10”, he ranks second in passing yards in Nevada’s 5A class behind Hawaii commit Maika Eugenio of Bishop Gorman, who’s thrown 2,469 yards through the air this season. McNeil’s top two targets include Nevada commit Brady Hummel and Jackson Sundeen, who have accounted for 22 of the Cougars’ receiving touchdowns this season. Spanish Springs’ head coach Rob Hummel believes McNeil’s decision making and pocket presence has helped elevate his game this season. Prior to the season starting, McNeil told us he believes team camaraderie with a senior-led group will pay dividends as the Cougars aim for a return to the regional championship game for the first time since 2023.

Quote to note: “He wants to be the best quarterback in the North and he oftentimes gets overlooked because when you look at Tyson, he’s not your prototypical quarterback size but I wouldn’t trade him for anybody else, I tell you that, in terms of his productivity and the way he goes about the business. He’s been a tremendously accurate as well. We got good skill guys, don’t get me wrong, but that stuff goes hand in hand with things that are going on there.” — Spanish Springs High head football coach Rob Hummel.

Spanish Springs hosts Galena for our Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week tonight at 7 p.m. on Nevada Sports Net.

Every month during the high school sports season, Nevada Sports Net will spotlight one local for our “High…

[47
1430,18131,617,123222,1425,11346,171254,62,110513,171253,67,132,68
0":"post-349522","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-golf","8":"tag-golf","9":"tag-high-school-football","10":"tag-nevada","11":"tag-passing-yards","12":"tag-playoffs","13":"tag-quarterback","14":"tag-spanish-springs","15":"tag-sports","16":"tag-touchdowns","17":"tag-tyson-mcneil","18":"tag-united-states","19":"tag-unitedstates","20":"tag-us
["GET
