{"id":349635,"date":"2025-11-02T05:16:26","date_gmt":"2025-11-02T05:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/349635\/"},"modified":"2025-11-02T05:16:26","modified_gmt":"2025-11-02T05:16:26","slug":"snl-hosts-nyc-mayoral-debate-with-miles-teller-ramy-youssef-shane-gillis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/349635\/","title":{"rendered":"SNL Hosts NYC Mayoral Debate With Miles Teller, Ramy Youssef, Shane Gillis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/saturday-night-live\/\" id=\"auto-tag_saturday-night-live_1\" data-tag=\"saturday-night-live\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saturday Night Live<\/a> kicked off its cold open with a mock New York City mayoral debate that was crashed by President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/miles-teller\/\" id=\"auto-tag_miles-teller_1\" data-tag=\"miles-teller\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miles Teller<\/a>, who served as the night\u2019s host, portrayed candidate and former New York governor Andrew Cuomo. While introducing himself, Teller\u2019s Cuomo introduced himself as a \u201cborn, bred New Yorker\u201d who \u201cknows this city like the back of a woman\u2019s back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSpecial guest Ramy Youssef was next introduced as Zohran Mamdani who said he was \u201chappy to be here, and I\u2019m ready to spend the next hour hearing my opponents pronounce my name in ways you couldn\u2019t begin to imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cAnd I know some of you are out there scared of the idea of a young socialist Muslim mayor,\u201d he said, continuing, \u201cSo allow me to put you at ease by smiling after every answer in a way that physically hurts my face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFinally, Shane Gillis stepped into the role of Curtis Sliwa, which led them into the crux of the debate. The faux candidates answered various questions, including why they would \u201cwant the worst job in the world,\u201d their go-to bagel orders and what they\u2019d say to \u201cundecided voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTowards the end of their debate, James Austin Johnson\u2019s Trump made his grand appearance when the candidates where asked what the \u201cbiggest problem\u201d they\u2019d have to tackle as mayor, where he joked that he might as well become the next mayor of New York. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s me!\u201d Johnson\u2019s Trump exclaimed. \u201cYes, they can pretend this election is about housing and taxes, but we all know it\u2019s about me, right? \u2018Cause I\u2019m gonna be very involved, very hands on. This guy knows about hands on, right, Cuomo?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJohnson\u2019s Trump even answered Kenan Thompson\u2019s (who portrayed the debate moderator) question about their go-to bagel orders, which he said is a \u201cBig Mac with a hole in the middle,\u201d to which he went on to reference his tenure living in the Big Apple. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cAnd I may not live in New York anymore. Oh, but I\u2019m always watching, lurking in the shadows, much like the late, great Phantom of the Opera,\u201d he said. \u201cTerrible what happened to him in terms of opera, with regard to being burned by chandelier. Perhaps I\u2019ll add New York Mayor to my list of duties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cCome on, open up your mind. Let your fantasies unwind in this darkness which you know. The darkness of the music of the night,\u201d Johnson\u2019s Trump sang to close out the cold open. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/eternity-review-elizabeth-olsen-miles-teller-a24-1236365334\/\">Eternity<\/a> star\u2019s opening monologue, he notably spoke about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/local-news\/miles-teller-losing-home-la-wildfires-1236125117\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">losing his home<\/a> in the Los Angeles wildfires at the beginning of the year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cA lot has happened since the last time that I hosted [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/snl\/\" id=\"auto-tag_snl_1\" data-tag=\"snl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SNL<\/a>],\u201d Teller said. \u201cA few months ago, my wife and I lost our house in the Palisades fire. But don\u2019t worry, seriously, do not worry, we\u2019re doing great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cBut that experience has made me incredibly grateful to have so many places that I can call home,\u201d he added. \u201cBut based on what happened to the last place that I called home, I just want to say, there\u2019s fire exits located there, there, there,\u201d he said while pointing to differing spots in the studio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSaturday night marked the second time Teller has served as an SNL host, where he was joined by Brandi Carlile as musical guest. His most recent appearance on the late night show was on Oct. 1, 2022, making it exactly three years and one month since his debut on the series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLater in the night, Teller impersonated Jonathan and Drew Scott of the Property Brothers, in a pre-taped spoof that touched on the real-life <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/politics-news\/white-house-movie-theater-demolished-ballroom-east-wing-1236408712\/\">demolition<\/a> of the White House\u2019s East Wing. There, they renovated the landmark and created a brand new ballroom. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThis week, we\u2019re taking on our biggest challenge yet: building the new White House ballroom,\u201d he said. \u201cDonald and Melania moved into this house nine years ago. They were evicted for four years, but they moved back in. Donald has a strong eye for interior design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTeller\u2019s Property Brothers took the audience around the White House in the bit, where a string of Halloween decorations put up by Melania Trump (played by Chloe Fineman) were shown. \u201cThose are for Christmas,\u201d\u00a0Fineman\u2019s Melania asserted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThey clarified if Trump had a budget for the renovation, to which he responded, between $350 million and infinity.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt will be ready just in time for my third term,\u201d Johnson\u2019s Trump said of the addition to the White House, to which Fineman\u2019s Melania responsed, \u201cThat\u2019s right! We want this to be our forever home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cYes, because we\u2019re not leaving,\u201d Johnson\u2019s Trump continued. \u201cWe\u2019re going to be doing something called coup.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe bit ended with Teller\u2019s Property Brothers asking for their payment. \u201cAren\u2019t you guys from Canada? Johnson\u2019s Trump asked before calling in ICE to end the sketch. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Top Gun: Maverick star was the fourth <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/snl-season-51-hosts-musical-guests-list-1236374762\/\">host of season 51<\/a>. He\u2019ll be followed by Nikki Glaser and Glen Powell as the next string of hosts in the next coming weeks. Sombr and Olivia Dean will join as musical guests on Nov. 8 and 15, respectively.
