Saturday Night Live roasted the New York City mayoral candidates in a mock debate choc-ful of New York references that sent-up the characteristic foibles of each of the Gracie Mansion hopefuls.<\/p>\n
Host Miles Teller, of \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d fame, portrayed a thick-accented Andrew Cuomo, comedian Shane Gillis acted the part of a zanier Curtis Sliwa, and comedian Ramy Youssef played frontrunner Zohran Mamdani during a staged NY1 mayoral debate.<\/p>\n
\u201cHello, everyone, I\u2019m happy to be here, and I am ready to spend the next hour hearing my opponents pronounce my name in ways you couldn\u2019t begin to imagine,\u201d said Youssef\u2019s Mamdani, who was later referred to as \u201cZoltar Robzombie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mamdani was also mocked for his constant and vacant smiling which, they joked, \u201churt [his] face.\u201d<\/p>\n
After running through a list of Zohran\u2019s lofty promises about the city, including \u201cfree WiFi,\u201d Youssef\u2019s Mamdani admitted, \u201cAs mayor, can I make that happen? I\u2019m not sure yet. But together, we\u2019re gonna find out that the answer is \u2018no.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Teller\u2019s Cuomo argued he was qualified to be mayor because many New Yorkers already dislike the former governor.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we all know, once you are elected mayor, everyone in the city immediately hates you. And in that way, I am already one step ahead of the game,\u201d said the mock ex-gov.<\/p>\n
Gillis\u2019 Curtis Sliwa made repeated references to his many run-ins with mafia families as he did during the last mayoral debate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be here and not being shot in the back of a yellow taxi five times by the Gottis and Gambinos as I was, famously, in 1992, 1993, and \u201894,\u201d a beret wearing Gillis said.<\/p>\n
When asked why he wanted to be mayor, the skit-Sliwa said, \u201cI need a job.\u201d<\/p>\n
SNL veteran Kenan Thompson acted as NY1\u2019s Errol Lewis, joking the local TV host was the \u201cleast famous person\u201d ever to be impersonated on SNL.<\/p>\n
A mock Donald Trump crashed the proceedings, roasting each of the\u00a0candidates \u2014 claiming the election is \u201call about me\u201d \u2014\u00a0before breaking into a verse of \u201cPhantom of the Opera.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut believe me, the resemblance is uncanny,\u201d Thompson joked in a quintessentially Lewis-manner.<\/p>\n
Mentioned during the Big Apple-centric skit was grocery chain Gristedes, which they joked sold \u201cwet sandwiches\u201d and joked about the danger of NYC bikelanes.<\/p>\n
