Elon Musk and Sam Altman are still taking swipes at each other on Musk\u2019s social media platform X.<\/p>\n
While both men were founders at OpenAI, where Altman is CEO, they have subsequently sparred across social media, court filings, and corporate blog posts<\/a>. The latest exchange began when Altman posted<\/a> what he called \u201ca tale in three acts,\u201d with screenshots showing that he reserved a Tesla Roadster in 2018, then recently tried to cancel it and request a refund on his $50,000 reservation fee, only for his email to bounce.<\/p>\n \u201cI really was excited for the car!\u201d Altman wrote<\/a>. \u201cAnd I understand delays. But 7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait.\u201d<\/p>\n The second-generation Roadster sports car was first announced in November 2017<\/a> but has been repeatedly pushed back<\/a>, with Musk (Tesla\u2019s CEO) recently saying that a new version will be unveiled by the end of this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n Musk first responded to Altman\u2019s post by writing<\/a>, \u201cYou stole a nonprofit,\u201d a criticism that he\u2019s directed at Altman and OpenAI<\/a> before \u2014 not just in tweets, but also with lawsuits<\/a> and takeover bids<\/a> seeking to stymie OpenAI\u2019s attempts to restructure as a for-profit company (a process that OpenAI recently completed<\/a>, with its non-profit arm still retaining control over the for-profit public benefit corporation).<\/p>\n Musk even started a rival AI startup, xAI, which is suing OpenAI and Apple<\/a> over allegations that the two companies are colluding to stifle competition. (Altman said<\/a> the accusation is \u201cremarkable \u2026 given what I have heard alleged that Elon does to manipulate X to benefit himself and his own companies and harm his competitors and people he doesn\u2019t like.\u201d)<\/p>\n
