As if President Donald Trump knew his absence during Saturday Night Live\u2019s cold open was felt, James Austin Johnson\u2019s Trump made a surprise appearance, interrupting the New York City mayoral debate to remind everyone what the election is really about: him.<\/p>\n

As the candidates\u2014Ramy Youssef as Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, controversial SNL alum Shane Gillis as Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa and host Miles Teller as former governor Andrew Cuomo\u2014were asked by Kenan Thompson\u2019s debate moderator what they thought the biggest issue they would have to confront as mayor would be, Johnson appeared, exclaiming, \u201cIt\u2019s me!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, they can pretend this election is about housing and taxes, but we all know it\u2019s about me, right?\u201d Trump asked. \u201cI\u2019m going to be very involved, very hands on… This guy knows about hands on, right Cuomo?\u201d he asked, pointing to Teller.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey-o, you got me,\u201d Teller replied. Cuomo resigned as governor in 2021<\/a> after 13 women accused him of sexual harassment and misconduct. <\/p>\n

Trump also took aim at Sliwa\u2019s \u201cEmily in Paris-looking hat\u201d which is part of his signature look as founder of the Guardian Angels<\/a>, and Mamdani\u2019s youth, telling the audience, \u201cHe\u2019s too young to lead, folks. He doesn\u2019t have the wobbly walk or, frankly, the mind I have.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGood brain,\u201d Austin\u2019s Trump continued. \u201cI took a cognitive test<\/a>, I did so well on my cognitive test that they immediately gave me an MRI.\u201d <\/p>\n

The (real) president let slip<\/a> earlier this week that his most recent checkup included an MRI, though officials declined to provide further details about the president\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI may not live in New York anymore, but I\u2019m always watching,\u201d Trump warned the candidates, who will face off at the ballot box on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cLurking in the shadows, much like the late, great, Phantom of the Opera. Terrible what happened to him in terms of opera and with regard to being burned by chandelier. Perhaps I\u2019ll add \u2018New York mayor\u2018 to my list of duties.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson-as-Trump then broke out into song, warbling several lines of \u201cThe Music of the Night\u201d from Andrew Lloyd Webber\u2019s Phantom of the Opera while holding a mask.<\/p>\n

The president has not shied away from commenting on the election consuming his hometown, labelling frontrunner Mamdani a communist and warning him<\/a> to \u201cdo the right thing\u201d as mayor, otherwise New York would not be \u201cgetting any money.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also declined to endorse Sliwa<\/a>, who won the Republican primary in June, wondering if he was \u201creally\u201d a Republican and asking if he would make Gracie Mansion \u201ca home for the cats.\u201d<\/p>\n
