{"id":350248,"date":"2025-11-02T11:55:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-02T11:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/350248\/"},"modified":"2025-11-02T11:55:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-02T11:55:15","slug":"tributes-flow-for-perth-climber-chin-tark-chan-who-died-on-nepals-himlung-himal-after-falling-ill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/350248\/","title":{"rendered":"Tributes flow for Perth climber Chin Tark Chan who died on Nepal\u2019s Himlung Himal after falling ill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A mountaineer who died on one of Nepal\u2019s highest peaks after falling ill during his ascent has been revealed as a much-loved Perth resident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Chin-Tark Chan died on Wednesday while attempting to climb the 7126m Himlung Himal, a Himalayan peak near the Tibetan border about 150km northwest of Kathmandu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">He had a passion for mountaineering, particularly in Nepal, with social media photos showing him enjoying many expeditions with friends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to Mr Chan after the heartbreaking news.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWe will miss you so much buddy, thankful for all the fun times and adventures we shared. Credit: facebook\/supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Friends and family launched a GoFundMe in his honour, raising almost $7000 so far to support Nepal\u2019s sherpa communities and high-altitude rescue teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cWhile no words can ease this loss, we choose to honour Chinny\u2019s memory by giving back to those who make high-altitude expeditions possible, the devoted Sherpas of Nepal,\u201d Rebecca Allan wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cSherpas risk their lives on every climb \u2026 yet they often work with limited support or protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">It is understood Mr Chan was working for Go Medical Industries \u2014 a Subiaco based company that supplies products for medical procedures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A spokesperson for Mr Chan\u2019s evacuation provider, Global Rescue, said he began experiencing severe symptoms at 6800m on Monday morning local time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Reports said sherpas \u2013 Nepalese guides \u2013 employed by his expedition company, 8K Expeditions, reported via WhatsApp that Mr Chan appeared to be suffering from snow blindness and mobility loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Global Rescue said a helicopter was requested for a longline or hover rescue, but it was \u201cdetermined to be unsafe\u201d as Mr Chan\u2019s location exceeded Nepal\u2019s maximum operating altitude for such missions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Two hours later, sherpas reported that Mr Chan was nearly unconscious.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/7a124a6cc66dd731d7c5b198d2a23d2b6cc9740f.jpg\" alt=\"Chin-Tark Chan.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconChin-Tark Chan. Credit: Supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Another helicopter operator attempted a hover rescue four hours after he first became ill, but poor weather forced the crew to abandon the mission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Sherpas managed to carry Mr Chan to a lower camp by Monday evening, where he was found to have frostbite on his fingers and toes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">With heavy snow making both descent and helicopter evacuation impossible, the group reportedly was forced to wait.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">On Wednesday, Nepali authorities temporarily grounded all helicopter flights following an unrelated crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">As sherpas attempted to carry Mr Chan further down the mountain, he died partway through the descent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cTragically, before a safe weather window presented, the client died below camp three at approximately 6500m,\u201d the Global Rescue spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2f7c9c226ad773c67c46afafeedc320c589a1ec1.jpg\" alt=\"Perth climber Chin Tark Chan died on Wednesday.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconPerth climber Chin Tark Chan died on Wednesday.
