The five-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a scooter crash<\/a> after school has been remembered as \u201cbeautiful, happy and innocent\u201d.<\/p>\n

Islah Metcalfe was riding her scooter on the footpath outside Rouse Hill Public School on Clower Ave in Rouse Hill, Western Sydney<\/a>, when she was struck by a ute<\/a> about 3.45pm on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Paramedics treated her at the scene before rushing her to Westmead Children\u2019s Hospital in a critical condition, where she later died.<\/p>\n

It was meant to be a \u201cnormal afternoon after-school pick-up\u201d, when Islah was \u201cexcited to get home\u201d, before the \u201cunimaginable\u201d happened, according to a GoFundMe page set up to support her mother.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur family is completely shattered,\u201d family friend Jessica Rose wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are no words to describe the pain of losing such a beautiful, happy, and innocent little girl.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was cheeky and full of life, always smiling, always laughing, and brought so much light to everyone who knew her, we will never get to see her grow up and see the woman she would become.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rose said Islah\u2019s mother, a single parent, is \u201cabsolutely heartbroken\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo parent should ever have to plan their child\u2019s funeral,\u201d the post read.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s struggling to cope not only with the grief but also with the overwhelming costs that come with this tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fundraiser has raised more than $80,000 to help Islah\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

One-To-One Tutor, where Islah had been a student, also paid tribute.<\/p>\n

\u201cIslah was a bright, kind, and beautiful soul who brought so much light into our centre,\u201d the organisation wrote on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cRest in peace, Islah. You will always be remembered.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Friday, mourners \u2014 including young students \u2014 laid flowers outside the school to pay tribute to the little girl.<\/p>\n

Attorney-General Michelle Rowland expressed her heartbreak on social media, describing the incident as a \u201ctragic loss\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of a young girl after she was struck by a vehicle outside Rouse Hill Public School yesterday afternoon,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy thoughts are with her family during this heartbreaking time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many young families in our community, and no doubt this news will be a shock to many.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay she rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

NSW Opposition Leader Mark Speakman, together with Sarah Mitchell and Ray Williams, said in a joint statement the tragedy had shattered the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hearts ache for the family and friends of the little girl who lost her life outside Rouse Hill Public School,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thinking of her loved ones, her classmates and the teachers and parents who are mourning today.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis tragedy will shake the community to its core … Our deepest thanks go to the paramedics, police and hospital staff who acted with courage and compassion in the most heartbreaking circumstances.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also want to thank the Department of Education staff who are supporting the school community through this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 42-year-old driver of the Toyota Hilux was taken to Blacktown Hospital for mandatory testing.<\/p>\n

Both the scooter and the ute have been seized for forensic examination.<\/p>\n

A crime scene has been established as investigators work to piece together what happened.<\/p>\n
