Jamie Lee Curtis expresses her interest in a True Lies<\/a> sequel, but a follow-up faces one big problem. Directed by James Cameron, the 1994 action movie united Curtis with Arnold Schwarzenegger for a story about a globe-trotting spy whose life becomes complicated when he suspects his wife of having an affair. <\/p>\n

Despite persistent love for the film, no True Lies 2 has materialized, but Curtis tells ET<\/a> that she’s still hoping. After recently revisiting her characters from Halloween and Freaky Friday, the star reveals that she would happily reprise her role as Helen Tasker<\/strong>. Curtis isn’t optimistic a sequel will ever come to fruition, however, because Cameron would have to be involved. Check out her comment below:<\/p>\n

“I always hoped that Arnold [Schwarzenegger] and I would get to do True Lies again. I don’t think that’ll happen because it could only happen if Jim Cameron wrote it. I don’t think we would ever do it without him. That was obviously a movie that changed my life in a big way.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Cameron, of course, currently remains busy with the Avatar franchise<\/strong> and the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash release<\/a>, and he’s also attached to direct an adaptation of Ghosts of Hiroshima by Charles Pellegrino. In addition to Avatar 4 and 5, he has also previously revealed that he’s in the process of scripting Terminator 7, which would seemingly focus heavily on AI.<\/p>\n

The Titanic director has spoken about a potential True Lies 2<\/a>, though, offering varying responses over the years. Plans were seemingly in motion to make a follow-up in the late ’90s and early ’00s, but the September 11 attacks led Cameron to have a change of heart<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Cameron offered a more hopeful response just before the release of Avatar in 2009, answering a True Lies 2 question from a member of the crowd at San Diego Comic-Con. Per Den of Geek<\/a>, the director said Schwarzenegger was currently busy with his role as Governor of California, but “who knows after that.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s now been 16 years, of course, and Schwarzenegger is no longer governor, yet a sequel still hasn’t materialized. The franchise did return in the form of a True Lies TV show<\/a> in 2023, but this was cancelled after only one season. <\/p>\n

Though the 1994 film enjoys a 72% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $378 million, making it a big hit, it seems very unlikely that Schwarzenegger, Curtis, and Cameron will be teaming up again for a sequel<\/strong>. All three creatives remain very active in Hollywood, though, and there will be no shortage of their work in the coming years.<\/p>\n

True Lies<\/strong> was evidently an important movie and an enjoyable experience for Curtis. Though the stars would really have to align for a sequel to happen, it sounds like she would jump at the chance to do another adventure with Harry and Helen Tasker.<\/p>\n
