(File image courtesy Midway.org)<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. District Court for Southern California will recognize 30 service members as new United States citizens aboard the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.midway.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USS Midway<\/a> on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Every year around Independence Day, USCIS hosts special naturalization ceremonies to welcome new citizens, with many held aboard the Midway in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese individuals have chosen to serve a country that is not their own, and potentially sacrifice their lives for the freedom and democracy that the United Sates stands for,\u201d USS Midway Museum marketing director, Dave Koontz said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt continues to be a tremendous honor for Midway to host this important ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Members of the armed forces who have served honorably for at least one year can apply for naturalization, provided they also meet requirements such as demonstrating good moral character and knowledge of U.S. history and government.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, those who serve during designated periods of conflict may qualify for exemptions from certain residency requirements. <\/p>\n<p>Military service members from at least 16 countries will be commended as part of Thursday\u2019s ceremony, which will open with welcoming remarks from a USCIS official.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony also will feature appearances by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fjc.gov\/history\/judges\/bashant-cynthia-ann\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chief U.S. District Judge Cynthia Bashant<\/a>, who will deliver the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/citizenship\/learn-about-citizenship\/the-naturalization-interview-and-test\/naturalization-oath-of-allegiance-to-the-united-states-of-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oath of Allegiance<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/sarajacobs.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Congresswoman Sara Jacobs<\/a>, who will close out the day with a congratulatory speech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 30 citizen candidates come from countries across the globe, including: American Somoa, Belize, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cote d\u2019Ivoire, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Peru, Philippines and Vietnam.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile born in multiple different countries,\u00a0they each represent the true spirit of America,\u00a0 and we\u2019re delighted that Midway\u2019s flight deck is where the officially become U.S. citizens,\u201d Koontz\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony, at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.midway.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USS Midway Museum<\/a>, begins at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"USS Midway Musuem.
