Also, Israel once again lived up to its \u201cStart-Up Nation\u201d reputation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>That was fast<\/strong>: No-code website-building platform Wix acquired 6-month-old, bootstrapped vibe-coding startup Base44 \u2014 both Israeli companies \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/18\/6-month-old-solo-owned-vibe-coder-base44-sells-to-wix-for-80m-cash\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">for $80 million in cash<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>That was fast, too:<\/strong> In just three months, Ramp\u2019s valuation <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/in-just-3-months-ramps-valuation-jumped-to-16b-up-from-13b\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">jumped to $16 billion<\/a> following its Series E, up from $13 billion when the spend management startup did a secondary sale earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Friends and foes<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/13\/new-details-emerge-on-metas-14-3b-deal-for-scale\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New details emerged<\/a> on Meta\u2019s $14.3 billion deal to acquire 49% of startup Scale AI, including a potential dividend payout. We also learned that OpenAI was <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/18\/openai-drops-scale-ai-as-a-data-provider-following-meta-deal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dropping Scale AI as a data provider<\/a> following the deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Frenemies<\/strong>: The U.S. Department of Defense awarded <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/openais-200m-dod-contract-could-squeeze-frenemy-microsoft\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a contract worth up to $200 million directly to OpenAI<\/a>, which could further strain the startup\u2019s relationship with Microsoft.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ICYMI<\/strong>: Out of all the teams presenting at YC\u2019s recent Spring 2025 Demo Day, here are <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/13\/11-startups-from-yc-demo-day-that-investors-are-talking-about\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">11 startups that investors have been talking about<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Didn\u2019t happen: <\/strong>People are also still talking about the police shutting down the YC Demo Day after-party that controversial AI startup Cluely tried to throw; or as <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/police-shut-down-cluelys-party-the-cheat-at-everything-startup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its CEO told TechCrunch<\/a>, \u201cthe most legendary party that never happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Most interesting VC and funding news this week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"512\" width=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Helsing_2.jpg\" alt=\"Man at laptop in a defense bunker\" class=\"wp-image-2807575\"  \/>Helsing<strong>Image Credits:<\/strong>Helsing<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most funding news was driven by either defense tech, AI, or both, but there were also some surprises. Plus, one VC firm is aiming high for its next fund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Good intuition<\/strong>: Applied Intuition, a company making software for autonomous vehicles, secured <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/applied-intuition-raises-600-million-as-it-pushes-further-into-defense\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a $600 million Series F and tender offer<\/a> at a $15 billion valuation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>New tune<\/strong>: Munich-based defense tech startup Helsing <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/16\/spotifys-daniel-ek-just-bet-bigger-on-helsing-europes-defense-tech-darling\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">closed a \u20ac600 million investment<\/a> led by Prima Materia, the VC firm of Spotify\u2019s founder Daniel Ek, which valued Helsing at \u20ac12 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>New unicorn<\/strong>: Israeli observability startup Coralogix became a unicorn after <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/observability-startup-coralogix-becomes-a-unicorn-eyes-india-expansion\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">raising a $115 million Series E<\/a>, which it will use to double its headcount in India, where 100 of its 550 employees are currently based.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Toldja<\/strong>: Mach Industries, a 2-year-old defense tech startup, confirmed having raised<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/two-year-old-defense-tech-mach-industries-confirms-100m-raise-led-by-khosla-bedrock\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> a $100 million round of funding<\/a> led by Khosla Ventures and Bedrock at a $470 million valuation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Money flows<\/strong>: Aspora, a startup formerly known as Vance and focused on facilitating remittances from the Indian diaspora, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/15\/aspora-gets-50m-to-build-remittance-solutions-for-indian-diaspora\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">closed a $50 million Series B<\/a> co-led by Sequoia and Greylock at a $500 million valuation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Change of heart<\/strong>: Sword Health, an AI-powered digital health startup that began as a virtual physical therapy solution, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/sword-health-nabs-40m-at-4b-valuation-pushes-ipo-plans-to-at-least-2028\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">locked in $40 million at a $4 billion valuation<\/a> in a funding round led by returning investor General Catalyst. It also pushed back its IPO plans to at least 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Multiplier effect<\/strong>: Multiplier Holdings announced having raised <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/18\/multiplier-founded-by-ex-stripe-exec-nabs-27-5m-to-fuel-ai-powered-accounting-roll-ups\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$27.5 million across seed and Series A rounds<\/a> after joining the growing trend of buying legacy service businesses \u2014 in its case, accounting firms \u2014 and scaling them with AI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stock where you shop: <\/strong>Grifin, a startup whose app helps users buy stock from brands they shop at, such as Walmart, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/18\/grifin-secures-11-million-to-make-investing-less-intimidating\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">secured $11 million in a Series A round<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Out of Sweden: <\/strong>Polar, a payment infrastructure platform for developers and AI-first businesses, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/after-shopify-bought-his-last-startup-birk-jernstrom-wants-to-help-developers-build-one-person-unicorns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">raised a $10 million seed round<\/a> led by Accel. Its CEO previously co-founded Tictail, which was acquired by Shopify in 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bullish<\/strong>: Global VC Endeavor Catalyst is <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/prominent-global-vc-endeavor-catalyst-is-raising-300m-sources-say\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">seeking to raise $300 million<\/a> for its fifth fund.
