Dodgers ownership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/11\/02\/dodgers-win-world-series-in-classic-unforgettable-game-7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/11\/02\/dodgers-win-world-series-in-classic-unforgettable-game-7\/\">Dodgers\u2019 World Series victory<\/a> was \u201cfirst and foremost a victory for the Mark Walter-led Guggenheim Baseball Management\u201d as this victory made them \u201cunquestionably the best owners in baseball,\u201d according to Bill Plaschke of the L.A. TIMES. They \u201cmake a ton of money, but they pour it back into the team at a pace unmatched by their baseball peers.\u201d Not once in their 13-year tenure has Guggenheim \u201cbeen accused of passing up talent to save money. In most other markets, that is an accusation made daily\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-11-01\/dodgers-back-to-back-champions-world-series-game-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-11-01\/dodgers-back-to-back-champions-world-series-game-7\">L.A. TIMES, 11\/1<\/a>). In California, Jim Alexander noted Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was \u201casked about the payroll narrative in his briefing before Saturday\u2019s game.\u201d The Dodgers are not \u201cthe only ones who spend large sums on payroll, obviously. But there are other ways to create an advantage beyond payroll, and this franchise uses many of them.\u201d Roberts said, \u201cPeople just overlook the fact that every year we probably have the top-five farm system in baseball. This year I think we probably have the No. 1 or No. 2. We pick at the bottom of the draft every year, towards the bottom, and we still have young guys, whether by way of trade or development, that continue to help contribute.\u201d Roberts: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/10\/25\/dodgers-project-to-be-first-team-to-surpass-200m-in-annual-sponsorship-revenue-sponsorunited\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/10\/25\/dodgers-project-to-be-first-team-to-surpass-200m-in-annual-sponsorship-revenue-sponsorunited\/\">On the business side<\/a>, I think that we do a great job of marketing our organization. So it\u2019s pretty buttoned up. I think we have great people and obviously great ownership too\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2025\/11\/01\/alexander-a-dodgers-dynasty-its-hard-to-argue-otherwise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2025\/11\/01\/alexander-a-dodgers-dynasty-its-hard-to-argue-otherwise\/\">ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 11\/1<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \"><b>WIDENING GAP: <\/b>WALL STREET JOURNAL\u2019s Jared Diamond wrote, \u201cAs the Dodgers celebrated on the field and the party began to range across Southern California, the rest of the baseball world was left wondering what happens now.\u201d The Dodgers\u2019 largess inspired \u201cwidespread <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/10\/24\/labor-issues-hover-over-world-series-as-dodgers-try-to-go-back-to-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/10\/24\/labor-issues-hover-over-world-series-as-dodgers-try-to-go-back-to-back\/\">debate and consternation all season long<\/a>, raising concern that the wealth gap in a sport without a salary cap had become a chasm.\u201d Another championship will \u201conly add fuel to that conversation\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/sports\/baseball\/los-angeles-dodgers-win-the-world-series-ad30bff0?mod=baseball_news_article_pos1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/sports\/baseball\/los-angeles-dodgers-win-the-world-series-ad30bff0?mod=baseball_news_article_pos1\">WALL STREET JOURNAL, 11\/2<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \"><b>TO CAP OR NOT TO CAP: <\/b>In D.C., Chelsea James wrote this Dodgers win in this World Series \u201cwas a talking point long before it materialized.\u201d Their \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/03\/27\/columns-mlb-wealth-gap-is-threating-competitive-integrity-but-salary-cap-could-alleviate-that\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/03\/27\/columns-mlb-wealth-gap-is-threating-competitive-integrity-but-salary-cap-could-alleviate-that\/\">dominance of the free agent market<\/a> combined with their October dominance on the field was Exhibit A for those arguing the sport needs a salary cap and suggesting the owners should push for it in next offseason\u2019s collective bargaining.\u201d One lesson from this World Series \u201cshould be that if money can buy regular chances at a title, it cannot guarantee one. This Dodgers championship should never be remembered as inevitable\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/2025\/11\/02\/world-series-game-7-blue-jays-dodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/2025\/11\/02\/world-series-game-7-blue-jays-dodgers\/\">WASHINGTON POST, 11\/2<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \"><b>RUINING A GOOD THING: <\/b>In L.A., Bill Shaikin wrote this is a \u201csubtle warning to all of baseball\u2019s owners: Don\u2019t let your desperation for a salary cap destroy a sport on the rise &#8212; in no small part thanks to the Dodgers.\u201d This includes growth through the World Baseball Classic that is four months away, and the World Series MVP, P Yoshinobu Yamamoto, is from Japan. So is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/10\/24\/double-duty-ohtani-ready-to-debut-dual-act-on-mlbs-brightest-stage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/10\/24\/double-duty-ohtani-ready-to-debut-dual-act-on-mlbs-brightest-stage\/\">Dodgers P\/DH Shohei Ohtani<\/a>, \u201cthe closest baseball has ever had to its own [Michael] Jordan.\u201d The league &#8212; \u201cand all the owners complaining about the Dodgers and their spending &#8212; happily profited from this traveling road show\u201d that is the Dodgers. The Dodgers \u201cled the major leagues in road attendance, again. The league sent the Dodgers to Seoul last spring and Tokyo this spring.\u201d The league\u2019s television partners \u201crushed to book the Dodgers, even for games at times inconvenient to the team.\u201d However, the Dodgers \u201cget the same share of international merchandise and broadcast revenue every other team does.\u201d The Dodgers \u201cmake a lot of money, pour the money back into the team, and win. They give the people what they want.\u201d However, \u201cnot every team can spend like the Dodgers. Most cannot, and baseball should be able to find ways to share the wealth without risking its tenuous but growing popularity by locking out players in pursuit of a salary cap\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-11-02\/dodgers-win-world-series-magic-johnson-title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-11-02\/dodgers-win-world-series-magic-johnson-title\">L.A. TIMES, 11\/2<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \"><b>BIGGER THAN BASEBALL<\/b>: In N.Y., Hubler, Parsons &amp; Herstik wrote as Southern Californians watched the Dodgers \u201cpower through,\u201d an \u201cimpromptu party erupted with a catharsis and joy that was about more than baseball &#8212; a celebration not of only excellence, but of the will to endure.\u201d Southern California has been through a \u201cgrueling year\u201d that included disasters that devastated Pacific Palisades and nearby Altadena in January and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/15\/column-dodgers-immigration-silence-hurts-latino-fanbase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/15\/column-dodgers-immigration-silence-hurts-latino-fanbase\/\">federal ICE crackdowns<\/a>. In an interview during the first inning of Saturday\u2019s game, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass said that she was \u201choping intensely for a victory that would bolster morale in her city.\u201d Across Southern California, fans \u201cechoed her yearning\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/11\/02\/us\/los-angeles-celebrates-dodgers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/11\/02\/us\/los-angeles-celebrates-dodgers.html\">N.Y. TIMES, 11\/2<\/a>). In L.A., Castleman, Vives &amp; Shaikin wrote a year of \u201cunprecedented upheaval across the city,\u201d city leaders alike \u201ctook the Dodgers\u2019 victory with extra symbolism this time.\u201d The celebrations \u201cbrought a rare air of bipartisanship &#8212; at least for a few moments Saturday night\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-11-01\/la-me-dodgers-streets-fans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-11-01\/la-me-dodgers-streets-fans\">L.A.
