Well-known names such as restaurateur Sam Fox and chef Mark Tarbell debuted new concepts and menus. The owners of O.H.S.O. transformed one of their restaurant spaces into a new, colorful cantina, and some skilled brewers and barbecue experts teamed up to bring a smokehouse and taproom to downtown Phoenix.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the seven most exciting new restaurants that opened in October.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"768\" width=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Lychee-and-Coconut.jpeg\" alt=\"Lychee and coconut salad at Alden.\" class=\"wp-image-40609406\"  \/>The lychee and coconut salad at Alden is a unique, refreshing bite.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alden<\/strong><br \/><strong>1625 N. Central Ave<br \/><\/strong>Phoenix Art Museum visitors now have a new restaurant to grab a bite after perusing the galleries. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/phxart.org\/visit\/dining\/\">Alden<\/a> opened on Oct. 1. and was brought to life by CS Hospitality, the team behind former downtown sushi restaurant Kaizen and Tempe eatery Silo, and Monica X. Castillo. The menu includes a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/new-restaurant-opens-at-phoenix-art-museum-meet-alden-40609400\/\">wide range of unique, artfully plated dishes<\/a>. Try the lychee and coconut salad to start, before digging into steak frites or kielbasa and pierogi. The restaurant also features gluten-free options, a kids\u2019 menu and a drinks list that spans alcoholic and non-alcoholic sips.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"777\" width=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_2418.jpg\" alt=\"Purple wraparound booth in a dining room\" class=\"wp-image-40610494\"  \/>The dining room at Diamond Don\u2019s showcases some of the artists the owner\u2019s music studio has worked with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Diamond Don\u2019s<br \/>42 S. MacDonald Drive, Mesa<\/strong><br \/>On Oct. 7, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.diamond-dons.com\/\">Diamond Don\u2019s<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/saltmine-studio-oasis-head-opens-new-mesa-restaurant-40610482\/\">celebrated its grand opening <\/a>with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and party. The new eatery is connected to Mesa\u2019s legendary Saltmine Studio Oasis. Over the decades, owner Don Salter fed musicians who were hungry after long recording sessions with his signature cheesesteaks. Now, customers can officially order sandwiches, pizza, wings, burgers and other craveable, late-night eats. Cocktails and mocktails are on offer, which can be sipped beneath spinning disco balls and sparkling chandeliers in the music-themed space.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gertrude\u2019s by Tarbell\u2019s<br \/>1201 N. Galvin Pkwy<\/strong>.<br \/><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/dbg.org\/visit\/dining\/\">Gertrude\u2019s<\/a>, the well-known eatery at the Desert Botanical Garden, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/desert-botanical-garden-sets-date-for-gertrudes-restaurant-reopening-40608966\/\">reopened on Oct. 6<\/a> after taking a hiatus. The restaurant and menu have been reimagined, with acclaimed chef Mark Tarbell at the helm. Expect seasonal dishes and drinks that utilize locally grown and sourced ingredients. Try crispy nopales with mole, barbacoa short rib tacos or vegan fettuccine. A beer, wine and cocktails list is available, along with a kids\u2019 menu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Society Swan <br \/>7014 E. Camelback Road, #559, Scottsdale<\/strong><br \/>Restaurateur Sam Fox\u2019s latest restaurant concept, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/societyswan.com\/\">Society Swan<\/a>, made a splash at Scottsdale Fashion Square on Oct. 15. The new restaurant is described as an \u201cAmerican Brasserie,\u201d on its website, and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/sam-fox-to-open-a-new-restaurant-at-scottsdale-fashion-square-22576368\/\">specializes in steak and seafood,<\/a> with a raw bar and a few sushi rolls on offer. The drinks menu focuses on martinis, but also includes beer, wine and non-alcoholic options. The new restaurant is part of the mall\u2019s expansion, bringing new food options to shoppers, including the<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/long-awaited-steak-and-seafood-restaurant-to-open-in-scottsdale-22644007\/\"> recently opened Catch<\/a> and hotly anticipated <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/scottsdale-din-thai-fung-pushes-opening-date-to-2026-20885749\/\">Din Tai Fung.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"768\" width=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/funky-fridas-25_.webp\" alt=\"Painting of Frida Kahlo.\" class=\"wp-image-40408240\"  \/>Funky Frida\u2019s name and bold decor are a nod to artist Frida Kahlo.<\/p>\n<p>O.H.S.O. Brewery + Distillery<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funky Frida\u2019s<br \/>4910 E. Indian School Road<\/strong><br \/>The Arcadia location of Little O\u2019s closed this summer for renovations. Then, owner Jon Lane announced the space would be getting a colorful makeover and reopening as an <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/little-os-becomes-funky-fridas-a-new-mexican-cantina-in-phoenix-22642846\/\">artist-inspired Mexican cantina. <\/a>On Oct. 15, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.funky-fridas.com\/\">Funky Frida\u2019s<\/a> made its debut. The new restaurant is drenched in color, with huge murals and paintings depicting tropical scenes. The menu spans traditional Mexican fare plus Tex-Mex staples. Start with Kahlo\u2019s Guacamole with charred pineapples before digging into a chicken burrito bowl or Mexico City Smash Burger with sizzling cheese. A dozen margaritas, cocktails, beer and wine round out the offerings.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Golden Oak Barbecue &amp; Taproom<br \/>1326 N. Central Ave.<\/strong><br \/>The former home of Pizza People Pub and Throne Brewing on Central Avenue now has a new tenant. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/goldenoakbbqtap.com\/\">Golden Oak Barbecue &amp; Taproom<\/a> welcomed its first customers on Oct. 24. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/new-phoenix-bbq-restaurant-golden-oak-opens-downtown-40614381\/\">full-service restaurant <\/a>offers barbecue staples smoked on-site and sides with Latin American flair. Part-owned by the owner of Mesa\u2019s Oro Brewing Co., the beer list is packed with local options perfect for washing down some decadent eats. Wine and creative cocktails are also on offer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"682\" width=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/pinyon-film-_-web-resolution-5.jpg\" alt=\"Pinyon's first-floor dining room\" class=\"wp-image-40614392\"  \/>Pinyon is now open in Scottsdale. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Pinyon <br \/>7363 E. Scottsdale Mall, Scottsdale<\/strong><br \/>The team behind Buck &amp; Rider has crafted a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/pinyon-scottsdale-buck-n-rider-team-40614443\/\">new concept in Scottsdale.<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/pinyonrestaurant.com\/\">Pinyon<\/a> opened facing the green lawns of Scottsdale Civic Center on Oct. 29. The Mediterranean-inspired restaurant serves small plates including classic Spanish tapas, hummus and Greek salad. Entrees focus on meat and fish grilled over charcoal and drinks center on spritzes and other refreshing sips.
