The Athletic\u2019s David Ornstein has named a Premier League defender as Tottenham\u2019s dream signing for the January transfer window.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is no secret that Tottenham are scouring the market for a centre-back ahead of the January window<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thomas Frank is thought to be keen on reinforcing his options at the back, given the poor fitness records of his two main starters: Cristian Romero<\/a> and Micky van de Ven<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Over the last few days, Aston Villa\u2019s Ezri Konsa has been mooted as a target for Spurs<\/a>, but there is another England international defender that the Lilywhites have had their eye on for a while.<\/p>\n

In the summer window, it was reported that Tottenham were considering an approach for Jarrad Branthwaite<\/a>, but the defender ended up staying put at Everton.<\/p>\n

It has been suggested over recent weeks that Spurs are still keeping an eye on Branthwaite\u2019s situation<\/a>, and that information has now been backed up by Ornstein.<\/p>\n

When asked who Tottenham\u2019s dream signing is, The Athletic journalist told Planet Football<\/a>: \u201cJarrad Branthwaite, because I think they\u2019ve been looking for a while to upgrade in that defensive department.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve looked at him. He\u2019s someone who has been linked with a move away from Everton, even though he\u2019s signed a new contract, and I guess he\u2019s one to watch in the future for many of the top clubs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spurs face massive roadblocks in landing Branthwaite<\/p>\n

Branthwaite only signed a new five-year deal with Everton in the summer<\/a>, which means that the Merseyside club would demand top dollar for the centre-back.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it has been alleged that Spurs face competition from Man United for the Everton man\u2019s signature<\/a>, with the Red Devils also thought to be big fans of the 23-year-old.<\/p>\n

One would also imagine that the England international will demand a guaranteed spot in the starting eleven, which Thomas Frank<\/a> will not be able to promise at N17, given that he has Romero and Van de Ven at his disposal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
