{"id":353380,"date":"2025-11-03T20:28:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T20:28:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/353380\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T20:28:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T20:28:21","slug":"see-renderings-of-the-reimagined-kingsbridge-armory-military-facility-in-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/353380\/","title":{"rendered":"See Renderings of the Reimagined Kingsbridge Armory Military Facility in NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, the City Council approved a sweeping plan to completely transform the historic Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx into a community-centered hub, to be developed in two phases.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"aee54bb7-3467-37f1-d384-f51265280a61\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1762201698_680_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Kingsbridge Armory rendering\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Rendering: Courtesy of NYCEDC\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106338448\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nRendering: Courtesy of NYCEDC&#13;<\/p>\n<p>According to project details unveiled by Mayor Eric Adams, Governor Kathy Hochul and U.S. Representative Adriano Espaillat, the first phase will focus on creating a \u201cstate-of-the-art venue space for entertainment, recreation, culture, commerce, light industrial manufacturing and more than 25,000 square feet of dedicated community space.\u201d The second phase will add roughly 500 units of permanently affordable rental housing. The total investment? Just over $215 million in combined city, state, and federal funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom training troops during the first World War to distributing food during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kingsbridge Armory has served our city for more than a century,\u201d Mayor Adams said in an official statement. \u201cWith hundreds of affordable homes and tens of thousands of square feet of commercial, community, and manufacturing space, this ambitious proposal will give the Bronx vital space to work, live, and come together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"9c21de3a-c3d9-1bbb-c7a4-7840c37805ce\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1762201699_734_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Kingsbridge Armory rendering\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Rendering: Courtesy of NYCEDC\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106338449\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nRendering: Courtesy of NYCEDC&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Timeline-wise, according to an official press release, construction is expected to begin in 2026, with the first phase\u2014centered around the Armory\u2019s 180,000-square-foot, column-free Drill Hall\u2014scheduled for completion by 2030. The second phase, which includes reimagining the adjacent National Guard site, is slated to wrap up by 2032.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"0 0 []\">Given the site\u2019s historical significance and the many steps it took to reach this point this marks a major milestone.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"76606d22-4292-1e8a-145f-75cfd47f88ac\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1762201699_659_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Kingsbridge Armory rendering\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Rendering: Courtesy of NYCEDC\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106338450\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nRendering: Courtesy of NYCEDC&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The Kingsbridge Armory first opened in 1917 and served the U.S. military until 1994, before reverting to city ownership in 1996. Over the years, the space has been repurposed as an emergency supply and food distribution center, most notably after Hurricane Sandy, during the COVID-19 pandemic and following the Twin Parks fire.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"ef53c225-fe08-1e85-9499-20817f36780a\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1762201701_988_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Kingsbridge Armory rendering\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Rendering: Courtesy of NYCEDC\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106338451\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nRendering: Courtesy of NYCEDC&#13;<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Mayor Adams\u2019 administration launched a community-driven engagement process to determine, in collaboration with local residents, what the Armory\u2019s next chapter should look like.
