From the lingering impacts of the Hollywood strikes to increased costs (labor, rent, ingredients, etc.), many variables continue to batter restaurant owners who operate on razor-thin margins. Los Angeles restaurants also <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/2025\/1\/17\/24346323\/los-angeles-restaurants-struggling-wildfires-chefs-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continue to struggle with the impact of the 2025 fires<\/a>, including slow business and devastating property loss, as well as the ongoing effects of ICE enforcement. Here are notable restaurant closures for September. For more closure news, read our <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/restaurant-closings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past closure coverage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Sinners &amp; Saints<\/strong> \u2014 On September 28, Sinners &amp; Saints closed permanently; the Venice bakery operated for 14 years serving cakes, cookies, and tarts. The bakery served both all-purpose wheat flour desserts and produced a separate \u201csaints\u201d menu for the gluten-intolerant set. There\u2019s a sliver of good news: many of Sinners &amp; Saints\u2019 desserts will be served next door at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.401kfoodandwine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">401k Food &amp; Wine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Canto VI <\/strong>\u2014 Veteran sommelier Brian Kalliel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DPNMqaoj-zb\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">temporarily closed<\/a> Canto IV on September 29. Kalliel opened <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/2024\/7\/15\/24199290\/canto-vi-wine-bar-opening-chatsworth-the-valley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his Chatsworth wine bar<\/a> in July 2024 with a highly curated and rotating wine list paired with European and Mediterranean dishes. Kalliel bet on providing an upscale option for the deep San Fernando Valley with personalized service and a menu by former Joan\u2019s on Third chef Chester Hastings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Living Room<\/strong> \u2014 South LA\u2019s iconic bar, <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/21514469\/los-angeles-black-owned-bars-nightlife-drinking-in-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Living Room<\/a>, closed in early October. As one of the last remaining Black-owned bars in Southern California, its closure was a deep loss for Los Angeles. For decades, Living Room owner Susan Carnell regularly bartended at one of Los Angeles\u2019s many Black-owned bars. She took over operations at the Living Room in the 2000s. Located on Crenshaw Boulevard slightly south of Adams Boulevard, the old-school spot sported comfy couches, televisions, chandeliers, and required drinkers to ring a doorbell for entry. The Living Room was a cherished space for those in Crenshaw and the Black community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Akasha<\/strong> \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/restaurant-closings\/293268\/akasha-culver-city-restaurant-closing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Culver City\u2019s Akasha<\/a> closed on October 5 after nearly two decades. Owners Akasha Richmond opened Akasha in 2008 in the heart of downtown Culver with a menu of globally influenced dishes prepared with farmers\u2019 market produce. The duo attributed the closure to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, entertainment industry strikes, and rising costs of food and labor. In a statement to Eater, Richmond wrote, \u201cI am grateful that we had such a long run and brought happiness to so many people over nearly 18 years in our beautiful restaurant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Le Petit Paris<\/strong> \u2014 Le Petit Paris announced its closure on October 13. The Downtown restaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/2015\/9\/10\/9213793\/le-petit-paris-opening-los-angeles-downtown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opened in 2015<\/a> inside the 112-year-old El Dorado building and served classic French cuisine. Founded by David and Fanny Rolland, who have an outlet in Cannes, Le Petit Paris sported two bars, a mezzanine level, an outdoor patio, and a main dining room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Cork &amp; Batter<\/strong> \u2014 On October 20, Inglewood\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/2022\/10\/19\/23411918\/cork-and-batter-restaurant-bar-lounge-opening-nfl-so-fi-stadium-rams-inglewood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cork &amp; Batter<\/a> announced its closure via Instagram. The multi-level bar and restaurant at the Sonder L\u00fcm hotel opened in 2022 directly across the street from the SoFi Stadium complex. Cork &amp; Batter opened in 2022 and was one of the few restaurants walking distance from SoFi, the YouTube Theater, and the Forum. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DQDfa4zkRjX\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram post<\/a> notes that the operators are \u201cmoving\u201d and \u201cevolving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><strong>Spoon &amp; Pork <\/strong>\u2014 Silver Lake\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/2018\/12\/10\/18132270\/filipino-silver-lake-spoon-pork-restaurant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spoon &amp; Pork<\/a> served its final meal on October 26. Nine years ago, owners Ray Yaptinchay and Jay Tugas started the locally loved Filipino restaurant as a food truck. In 2019, they debuted a standalone location in Silver Lake and a <a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/2021\/10\/4\/22709015\/spoon-and-pork-filipino-restaurant-opening-sawtelle-am-intel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sawtelle outpost<\/a> in 2021. They closed the Sawtelle location in February 2025. Yaptinchay and Tugas\u2019 menu became a key restaurant amplifying Filipino foods and flavors with a modern touch. Yaptinchay tells Eater that financial strains, labor challenges, and a changing economy are the reasons behind Spoon &amp; Pork\u2019s closure. With 13 locations in the Bay Area, the Studio City location featured restaurants by TwayDaBae and Alvin Cailan. Local Kitchens launched in 2020 by former DoorDash co-founders Jon Goldsmith and Andrew Munday, which partnered with influencers and known chefs to serve popular dishes.
