The BBC<\/a> used \u201cdoctored video\u201d of President Trump\u2019s Jan. 6, 2021, speech on the White House Ellipse and \u201cmangled\u201d the timeline of the day\u2019s events in a documentary last year, according to a whistleblower report.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The damning 19-page report on \u201cBBC bias,\u201d<\/a> obtained by the Telegraph<\/a>, was authored by former Editorial Guidelines and Standards Committee (EGSC) adviser Michael Prescott, who sent the dossier to the BBC\u2019s governing board after his warnings about the misleading Trump documentary were \u201cdismissed or ignored,\u201d he claimed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The documentary \u2013 \u201cTrump: A Second Chance?\u201d \u2013 aired on the BBC\u2019s current events program, \u201cPanorama,\u201d last October and \u201cmaterially misled viewers\u201d by splicing together clips of Trump\u2019s speech at the \u201cStop the Steal\u201d rally<\/a> to make it seem like he incited the riot at the US Capitol, according to Prescott.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The ex-standards adviser notes that the BBC aired footage of Trump appearing to tell rally-goers: \u201cWe\u2019re gonna walk down to the Capitol and I\u2019ll be there with you and we fight. We fight like hell and if you don\u2019t fight like hell you\u2019re not gonna have a country any more.\u201d<\/p>\n

The clip was spliced together from three separate parts of Trump\u2019s speech<\/a> \u2013 with a nearly hour-long gap edited out to make it seem like one fluent sentence.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s actual remarks were:\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re gonna walk down, and I\u2019ll be there with you, we\u2019re gonna walk down, we\u2019re gonna walk down any one you want but I think right here, we\u2019re gonna walk down to the Capitol and we\u2019re gonna cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women.\u201d<\/p>\n

The BBC edited out the president saying, \u201cI know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

About 54 minutes later in his speech, Trump said, \u201cMost people would stand there at 9 o\u2019clock in the evening and say, I wanna thank you very much and they go off to some other life, but I said something\u2019s wrong here, something\u2019s really wrong, can\u2019t have happened, and we fight. We fight like hell, and if you don\u2019t fight like hell, you\u2019re not gonna have a country any more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prescott described the deceptive editing of the Trump documentary as \u201cshocking.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis created the impression that Trump said something he did not and, in doing so, materially misled viewers,\u201d he wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The BBC program also made it appear as if members of the Proud Boys, an extremist right-wing group, were inspired to march toward the Capitol Building after Trump\u2019s speech.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The footage the program used of the Proud Boys heading toward the Capitol, however, was taken before Trump\u2019s address.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was completely misleading to edit the clip in the way Panorama aired it,\u201d Prescott wrote. \u201cThe fact that [Mr Trump] did not explicitly exhort supporters to go down and fight at Capitol Hill was one of the reasons there were no federal charges for incitement to riot.\u201d<\/p>\n

A BBC spokesperson declined to comment on Prescott\u2019s claims the network turned a blind eye to his concerns of bias ahead of the program\u2019s airing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we don\u2019t comment on leaked documents, when the BBC receives feedback it takes it seriously and considers it carefully,\u201d the spokesperson said in a statement to The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n
