{"id":35401,"date":"2025-07-03T13:33:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T13:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/35401\/"},"modified":"2025-07-03T13:33:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T13:33:09","slug":"libertys-jonquel-jones-pissed-she-wasnt-named-wnba-all-star-starter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/35401\/","title":{"rendered":"Liberty&#8217;s Jonquel Jones &#8216;pissed&#8217; she wasn&#8217;t named WNBA All-Star starter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Liberty center Jonquel Jones didn\u2019t sugarcoat her disappointment when it came to the fact<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/21\/sports\/jonquel-jones-expected-to-miss-at-least-a-month-with-liberty-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> a sprained ankle derailed her All-Star-worthy start<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pissed,\u201d she said after practice Wednesday. \u201cI\u2019m not even gonna lie about it, I\u2019m really upset about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones has been named an All-Star in five of the past seven seasons, including 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Earning a sixth All-Star nod was the \u201cone personal goal\u201d Jones had for herself this season.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 WNBA Finals MVP was on track to make her All-Star aspirations a reality.<\/p>\n<p>In her first nine games, Jones averaged 15.3 points and 11.3 rebounds while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from deep.<\/p>\n<p>Jones initially sprained her right ankle June 5 in Washington. In her second game back, she aggravated the ankle injury when she landed on another player\u2019s foot after going up for a shot.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Jones learned she wasn\u2019t named a starter for the 2025 WNBA All-Star game. <\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s keeping her fingers crossed that she may be named one of the 12 reserves, which are determined by the league\u2019s head coaches.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.42420028;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36422913\" width=\"840\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Jonquel-Jones.jpg\" alt=\"Liberty star Jonquel Jones, who is out again with an ankle injury, said she was &quot;pissed&quot; about not being named an All-Star starter.\" class=\"wp-image-36422913\"  \/>Liberty star Jonquel Jones, who is out again with an ankle injury, said she was \u201cpissed\u201d about not being named an All-Star starter. John Jones-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Though there\u2019s no minimum games played requirement to be named an All-Star, Jones knows her being sidelined may impact her chances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see when it comes [out] but I\u2019m definitely upset about it,\u201d Jones said. \u201cObviously I was playing well enough to be an All-Star again and it\u2019s something that I expect of myself every year as well. So we\u2019ll see. But if it happens that I\u2019m not, then I\u2019m definitely going to be very upset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Being left out of the main event of All-Star weekend \u2014 scheduled for July 18-19 in Indianapolis \u2014 is just one of the challenges Jones has had to come to grips with since reinjuring her ankle in the Liberty\u2019s June 19 loss against the Mercury.<\/p>\n<p>Jones has had no choice but to watch from the sidelines as the Liberty struggled on their 10-day road trip, going 1-3.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.28;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36422911\" width=\"755\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Jonquel-Jones-2.jpg\" alt=\"Jonquel Jones, who is out with an ankle injury again, goes up for a shot during the Liberty's loss to the Mercury on June 19, 2025.\" class=\"wp-image-36422911\"  \/>Jonquel Jones, who is out with an ankle injury again, goes up for a shot during the Liberty\u2019s loss to the Mercury on June 19, 2025. NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been hard to see it,\u201d Jones said. \u201cIt\u2019s been difficult. \u2026 But I think there are some things that we can control as a team to help us just look better out there and kind of help us be closer to winning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Liberty play their next eight games in Brooklyn and aren\u2019t scheduled to hit the road again until their July 28 game in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p>Jones said the lengthy home stand should be good for her recovery considering swelling has been one of her biggest issues with the sprain. She also welcomed the chance for some normalcy, despite the setback.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCovering the Liberty like never before\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Madeline Kenney&#8217;s Inside the Liberty, a weekly Sports+ newsletter.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can see my dogs every day and they make me happy,\u201d Jones said. \u201cI can do my regular walks and stuff like that and just kind of get into that routine of just when I\u2019m showing up to the gym, when I\u2019m doing rehab, when I\u2019m doing conditioning and all that stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones can also host \u201cLove Island\u201d watch parties with her teammates in her Brooklyn apartment.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberty announced June 21 that Jones would miss four to six weeks. About two weeks into her rehab process, Jones said she doesn\u2019t have a target date to return to play.
