In the past five years, the Jersey City Board of Education (JCBOE) has quietly settled at least 14 lawsuits filed by Jersey City Public Schools (JCPS) employees who claimed they were victims of workplace discrimination, harassment or retaliation, according to a Jersey City Times review of court records. At least six more such suits are ongoing.<\/p>\n

The allegations in the 20 suits that the Times identified paint a picture of a school district in which employees are punished for reporting perceived malfeasance, often by being reassigned, terminated or denied promotions. <\/p>\n
