One New York City Marathon runner may not have been “Defying Gravity,” but he certainly was redefining what the word endurance means.<\/p>\n
There were countless inspirational moments during the 26.2-mile race on Sunday, including the Broadway star who pushed the limits of what it means to be an athlete and a performer.<\/p>\n
Actor Jordan Litz crossed the finish line in Central Park in three hours and 40 minutes, with a pace of 8:26 per mile. For most, that would be more than enough to call it a day, to head home for some much-deserved rest.<\/p>\n
But not Litz. His work wasn’t done yet \u2014 in fact, he still was going to head to work.<\/p>\n
After racing through all five boroughs, Litz went about 20 blocks south to the Gershwin Theater in midtown, where he starred as Fiyero in “Wicked” for the matinee performance at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
And still, he wasn’t done. He was still “Dancing Through Life” for the 7 p.m. performance as well.<\/p>\n
“If I had sat down, i wouldn\u2019t have gotten back up,” he told NBC Nightly News. “I was like, ‘That\u2019s one of the best ‘Dancing Through Life’ [performances] I\u2019ve done in weeks! Maybe I need to run a marathon more often.”<\/p>\n
Litz said he hopes his tale of strength and perseverance can serve his daughters some day.<\/p>\n
“Hopefully, my daughters will look at this accomplishment someday and be like ‘My dad ran the New York City Marathon and did two shows on Broadway. I can do anything,'” he said.<\/p>\n
