JBS SA, the world\u2019s largest meatpacker, has agreed to pay $1.1 million to settle a lawsuit by the state of New York over allegations the company misled the public about reducing the impact of its operations on the environment.<\/p>\n
As part of the settlement, announced Monday by New York Attorney General Letitia James, Brazil-based JBS agreed to revise language related to the company\u2019s environmental marketing and produce annual reports to James\u2019 office.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew Yorkers deserve the truth when it comes to the environmental impact of the products they buy,\u201d James said in a press release. \u201cMy office will always hold companies accountable when they mislead New Yorkers and harm our planet.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement, JBS said the settlement \u201cdoes not reflect an admission of wrongdoing.\u201d The company\u2019s USA unit said it \u201cremains driven to advance sustainable agriculture. We maintain a continued focus on investing in practical solutions that strengthen the resilience of the food system.\u201d<\/p>\n

A New York court tossed James\u2019 suit earlier this year, but allowed the attorney general\u2019s office 90 days to file an amended complaint.<\/p>\n The settlement comes less than five months after JBS began trading<\/a> on the New York Stock Exchange.
