{"id":35504,"date":"2025-07-03T14:26:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T14:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/35504\/"},"modified":"2025-07-03T14:26:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T14:26:10","slug":"this-weeks-three-san-diego-concerts-that-are-a-must-for-discerning-music-fans-san-diego-union-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/35504\/","title":{"rendered":"This week\u2019s three San Diego concerts that are a must for discerning music fans \u2013 San Diego Union-Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ziggy Marley<\/p>\n<p>Whether doing his own songs or classics by his legendary father, Bob Marley, it isn\u2019t difficult for Ziggy Marley to cast a musical spell over his audiences.\u00a0He\u2019s a charismatic performer, a strong singer and a talented band leader who knows how to build musical momentum.<\/p>\n<p>A seven-time Grammy Award-winner, Marley was one of the producers of \u201cOne Love,\u201d the 2024 biofilm about his iconic dad, who died of cancer in 1981 and is still the best-selling reggae artist of all time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy father\u2019s music is my music, too,\u201d Ziggy Marley said in a 2023 Union-Tribune interview.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"Ww4DdJhlEw\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2023\/07\/28\/ziggy-marley-now-on-tour-with-trombone-shorty-seeks-to-refocus-attention-on-bob-marley-with-new-film\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ziggy Marley, now on tour with Trombone Shorty, seeks to refocus attention on Bob Marley with new film<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But the younger Marley is not standing in the shadows of his illustrious dad.<\/p>\n<p>Two of Ziggy Marley\u2019s own songs, \u201cTrue To Myself\u201d and \u201cBeach in Hawaii,\u201d have each been streamed more than 100 million times, and his latest book for kids, \u201cMusic Is In Everything,\u201d came out last fall. He most recently performed here last year at The Shell with his band and the San Diego Symphony.<\/p>\n<p>Marley\u2019s return appearance Saturday at the San Diego County Fair will be an orchestra-free affair. (Jordan Strauss\/Invision\/AP)<br \/>\nEarth Wind &amp; Fire<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been 54 years since Earth, Wind &amp; Fire\u2019s self-titled debut album was released and nine year\u2019s since the death of its former leader, Maurice White, and this brassy Chicago-bred band is still going strong.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"vqcROTsUC4\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2016\/02\/04\/earth-wind-fire-founder-maurice-white-dies-at-74\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Earth, Wind &amp; Fire founder Maurice White dies at 74<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Headed by bass-guitar dynamo and EWF co-founder Verdine White, the current lineup also features two members \u2014 singer Philip Bailey and drummer Ralph Johnson \u2014 who both came on board in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>This year marks the 50th anniversary of the band\u2019s classic 1975 album, the chart-topping \u201cThat\u2019s The Way Of The World.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year also marks the 47th anniversary of Earth, Wind &amp; Fire\u2019s equally classic \u201cSeptember Song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is the band\u2019s only hit to be covered by such disparate artists as Taylor Swift, Kirk Franklin, John Tesh, DJ Speedo, Justin Timberlake, Gordon Goodwin\u2019s Big Phat Band, Ginger Root and the late French jazz guitarist Sylvain Luc.<\/p>\n<p>If Earth, Wind &amp; Fire\u2019s performance here Monday at The Shell matches its 2023 concert at the same venue, attendees can expect a memorable night.<\/p>\n<p>7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 6. (Courtesy David McClister)<br \/>\nDwight Yoakam, The Mavericks, Ben Haggard<\/p>\n<p>This may well be the most alluring triple-bill of the summer for fans of Bakersfield-styled country music and of Florida-bred country music with a zesty Latin twist.<\/p>\n<p>Both Dwight Yoakam and The Mavericks rose to national prominence in the 1980s, thanks to their respective songwriting and well-honed stage chops.<\/p>\n<p>Both are rock-solid performers with deep catalogs from which to draw.
