In fact, no towns in the Sunshine State made it to GoBankingRates.com&#8217;s most recent survey of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gobankingrates.com\/retirement\/planning\/americas-50-safest-and-wealthiest-retirement-towns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:America\u2019s 50 safest and wealthiest retirement towns;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">America\u2019s 50 safest and wealthiest retirement towns<\/a>. Instead, it is Pinehurst, a small town in North Carolina, known as the \u201chome of American Golf\u201d and the host of major championships, including the U.S. Open, that topped the ranking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">While Pinehurst came in second in 2024, it landed at No. 1 this year, thanks to a few hard numbers. According to GoBankingRates.com&#8217;s findings, as of October 2025, almost 40 percent of the population there is 65 and older; the average retirement income before Social Security is $51,767; 78.5 percent of households pay under a third of their income for monthly costs; and the property crime rate and violent crime rates are 2.78 and 0.59 (per 1,000).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Pinehurst is located in Moore County, about 100 miles east of Charlotte. This is a place where playing Donald Ross&#8217;s Pinehurst No. 2 course, relaxing at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinehurst.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Pinehurst Resort;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Pinehurst Resort<\/a>, or strolling through the historic Village at Pinehurst are par for the course (pun completely intended). However, this type of lifestyle doesn\u2019t come cheap. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zillow.com\/home-values\/33430\/pinehurst-nc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Zillow;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Zillow<\/a> recently estimated the average home value in Pinehurst is $531,820\u2014and it\u2019s steadily rising.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Pinehurst is followed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelandleisure.com\/guide-to-hot-springs-national-park-arkansas-11780587\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Hot Springs Village, Arkansas,;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Hot Springs Village, Arkansas,<\/a>\u00a0in No. 2, where almost 60 percent of the population is of retirement age, and the average retirement income before Social Security is $38,156. Oro Valley, Arizona\u2014recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelandleisure.com\/most-livable-place-to-retire-west-coast-america-11799505\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:named the most livable place to retire in the West;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">named the most livable place to retire in the West<\/a>\u2014ranked third. Rancho Palos Verdes, California, an upscale residential community about 30 miles south of Los Angeles and home to the sprawling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelandleisure.com\/terranea-resort-palos-verdes-california-11768042\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Terranea Resort;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Terranea Resort<\/a>, took the No. 4 spot, while Beavercreek, Ohio, was fifth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">While not a single Florida destination made it into the top 50, there were 10 California towns featured, including Lincoln (No. 20), Laguna Woods (No. 23), and Fountain Valley (No. 27).
