Club Random<\/a>\u201d podcast that he was among the celebs who slammed Disney-owned ABC for pulling \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d off the air on Sept. 17 after Kimmel falsely claimed Charlie Kirk\u2019s alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, was a Trump supporter.<\/p>\nBut after Kimmel returned on Sept. 23, Maher noticed he wasn\u2019t among those the host thanked for standing by him.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, Jimmy apparently doesn\u2019t like me too much anymore because he thanked everybody but me. And I was adamant \u2014 adamant \u2014 about supporting him that week and the next week,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n
Maher said he didn\u2019t \u201cagree\u201d with Kimmel\u2019s comments about Robinson, but stressed \u201che has the right to be wrong,\u201d which is why he defended him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t lie and say I think what he said was accurate,\u201d Maher added. \u201cBut I was adamant he shouldn\u2019t be thrown off the air. He did a great show. I went on and on.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maher then criticized Kimmel\u2019s format and other late-night shows as \u201cvery predictable,\u201d arguing their hosts are \u201cideologically captured by one side.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHim and hosts like that, quite frankly, they\u2019re all quite similar in this regard \u2013 is that they\u2019re ideologically captured by one side,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just not what I do, what I\u2019m doing. And so, there\u2019s a reason why half the country feels insulted by them [hosts] and is turned off to them, because it\u2019s just one very predictable point of view.\u201d<\/p>\n
Maher added that Kimmel\u2019s suspension stemmed from being \u201cfar in the bubble.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd this proves that it\u2019s often not completely accurate because that was not really a smart thing to say, that this guy who shot Charlie Kirk was on the MAGA team,\u201d Maher added.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u2018Because that\u2019s just something that the Bluesky crowd told themselves, and if you\u2019re that far in the bubble, where you don\u2019t really see both sides and you don\u2019t, you\u2019re gonna believe that Bluesky point of view.\u201d<\/p>\n
Disney briefly suspended ABC\u2019s Kimmel after he falsely implied Robinson belonged to the \u201cMAGA gang,\u201d despite reports, later confirmed in the following day\u2019s indictment, that the 22-year-old suspect had left-wing beliefs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,\u201d Kimmel told his viewers during the controversial segment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kimmel\u2019s baseless claim sparked FCC scrutiny and widespread backlash, leading Disney to suspend his show. <\/p>\n
But, less than a week later, \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d was back on the air to record ratings \u2014 2.3 million viewers within 48 hours and 6.5 million on Sept. 25, the show\u2019s biggest audience in more than a decade.<\/p>\n
However, the surge was short-lived, with ratings subsequently declining by 64% two days later.<\/p>\n
