Alasdair Gold has shed light on what many at Tottenham Hotspur noticed about Mathys Tel during his loan spell at the club that convinced the club to push ahead with a permanent deal for the Frenchman.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 20-year-old has become Tottenham\u2019s first signing of the Thomas Frank<\/a> era, with Spurs paying \u00a329.6m for Tel<\/a>, which was a considerable discount on the \u00a345m purchase option they had on the forward.<\/p>\n

The reason Bayern Munich were forced to drop their price was that the youngster certainly did not set the world alight during his loan spell at N17, being unable to establish himself as a regular in Ange Postecoglou\u2019s<\/a> starting eleven.<\/p>\n

However, Thomas Frank has said that he is delighted to have Tel on board<\/a>, with the Dane believing that he can improve the France Under-21 international.<\/p>\n

Gold has now explained that while the former Bayern man might not have produced too many moments of magic on the pitch, he made a strong impression on everyone in training.<\/p>\n

The journalist revealed that Tel<\/a> showed a great mentality behind the scenes and proved a good influence on the squad, impressing everyone with his work ethic.<\/p>\n

He explained that the few glimpses of technical quality that the Tottenham decision-makers<\/a> saw from Mathys Tel convinced them to bet on him.<\/p>\n

Gold said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: \u201cI\u2019ve been speaking to people with a lot of knowledge about him, and there\u2019s a feeling that he\u2019s very strong technically and he has an excellent training mentality behind the scenes, a really positive character and influence on the squad as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of fitness work had to be done with him last season, strengthening for the Premier League<\/a> as well. I think he could benefit from more strength, his finishing needs work, absolutely. But from what I understand, do you remember his performance vs Forest last season?<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was held up internally as \u2018that\u2019s what we want him to be. That\u2019s what they want to build on. He has Champions League<\/a> experience, he\u2019s played for one of the biggest clubs in the world, he won\u2019t fear it in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mathys Tel was keen on a return to Tottenham<\/p>\n

It was reported by TEAMtalk earlier this week that Tel was also very keen on returning to Spurs<\/a>, having enjoyed his time in London and expressing a desire to be part of the project at N17.<\/p>\n

The outlet also claimed that Frank<\/a> sees the young forward as a good fit for his dynamic system and values the youngster\u2019s work rate and adaptability.<\/p>\n

Tottenham will be hoping that Dane is the right man to get the best out of the talented young forward, whose potential is clear for all to see.<\/p>\n
