{"id":35593,"date":"2025-07-03T15:11:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T15:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/35593\/"},"modified":"2025-07-03T15:11:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T15:11:08","slug":"video-shows-bear-swimming-with-cubs-in-mass-reservoir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/35593\/","title":{"rendered":"Video shows bear swimming with cubs in Mass. reservoir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"a-term a-term--primary\" href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/tag\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLocal News\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tA fisherman captured video on June 25 of a bear swimming across the Quabbin Reservoir to an island with two bear cubs on its back.<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts residents weren\u2019t the only ones seeking relief from the heat last week.<\/p>\n<p>A fisherman captured video on June 25 of a bear swimming across the Quabbin Reservoir to an island with two bear cubs on its back.<\/p>\n<p>Izzy Drost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/izzy.drost\/posts\/pfbid02X5ZeEpb3obFX3v6GnNmcd88W5RsW3xHs7AYn7SYFEVX7qkiVjLkUQDp8KLkSehjKl?rdid=SGoVrCtC0MKcdDeN#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">shared<\/a> clips of the bear swimming with its precious cargo to Facebook.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy buddy took me out on the Quabbin for some fishing, and all of a sudden we see a Momma Bear Swimming across the Quabbin to an island with her 2 tiny baby cubs on her back,\u201d he wrote. \u201cWhat an amazing sight to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The videos were re-shared by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries &amp; Wildlife.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlack bears can often be seen swimming to cool off during hot summer months in both backyard swimming pools and natural bodies of water,\u201d wildlife officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MassWildlife\/posts\/1125729792920504\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cBears may also swim to travel or avoid perceived threats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Black bears are common in western and central Massachusetts and have been expanding their range in the state, wildlife experts wrote, but \u201cseeing a bear with cubs in the wild is a special sighting.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officials urged the public to remember that bears should be appreciated \u201cfrom a distance\u201d for the safety of both humans and the animals. <\/p>\n<p>Removing or securing food sources, like bird feeders and trash cans, is key to preventing problems with bears in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBears will visit birdfeeders, orchards, and beehives,\u201d the state advises. \u201cIt is not unusual for bears to use residential areas, and they are often attracted to yards by bird feeders and unsecured trash.
