The New York City mayor\u2019s race pitting Zohran Mamdani<\/a> against Andrew Cuomo<\/a> will determine whether the city elects its first Muslim mayor and its youngest leader in generations<\/a> or offers a comeback for a longtime politician who resigned as governor<\/a> four years ago in disgrace.<\/p>\n

As of 3 p.m. ET, nearly 1.5 million people had voted in New York City\u2019s mayoral election, according to the city\u2019s Board of Elections, with turnout already surpassing the total votes cast in any NYC mayoral election in the past 20 years.<\/p>\n

Other top races in Tuesday\u2019s election include a pair of races for governor in New Jersey<\/a> and Virginia<\/a> and a ballot measure in California<\/a> that Democrats are counting on for next year\u2019s elections to determine control of Congress. <\/p>\n
