Dallas police<\/a> officers arrested over 500 suspects accused of domestic violence<\/a> crimes during the month of October, the department announced at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Officers launched Operation Safe Families in October, the same month designated to raise awareness about domestic violence abuse in the U.S. <\/p>\n

The goal was to target offenders with outstanding domestic violence warrants or those actively committing offenses, police Chief Daniel Comeaux said during the news conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is something we\u2019re going to continue to focus on year round, and we\u2019re going to do what\u2019s necessary to bring justice to those that deserve justice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A total of 539 arrests were made, with the top 10 arrests being repeat offenders or felony charges, which the department considered \u201chigh profile,\u201d police Lt. Ashley Lee, who is over the department\u2019s domestic violence unit, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn average, the unit works approximately 14,000 domestic violence cases yearly,\u201d Lee said. \u201cThis year we\u2019ve worked 11,167 cases.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police did not disclose specific details about the arrests and suspects in an effort to keep the victims\u2019 information private, Lee said.<\/p>\n

Police urge victims of domestic violence to speak up and ask for help.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want you to come forward and collect these services,\u201d Lee said. \u201cIt\u2019s our primary goal to protect you and your families.\u201d <\/p>\n
