Titled 3Penny Opera\u00a0and\u00a0conceived and directed by Abud, the musical will run January 15\u201325, 2026, at The Theatre at St. Jean\u2019s on the Upper East Side.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/theater\/the-40-best-off-broadway-shows-to-see-in-fall-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 40 best Off Broadway shows to see in Fall 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"405\">First staged in Berlin in 1928, The Threepenny Opera follows the exploits of charming yet ruthless criminal Macheath (aka Mack the Knife), whose marriage to Polly Peachum, the daughter of a powerful beggar king who controls the city\u2019s panhandlers,\u00a0leads her outraged parents to plot to have him arrested and hanged. As the story unfolds, the lines blur between criminals and supposedly respectable citizens.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"405\">With its biting satire and unforgettable score,\u00a0The Threepenny Opera\u00a0is a razor-sharp critique of corruption, capitalism, class warfare and moral decay.\u00a0Abud&#8217;s\u00a03Penny Opera puts that anarchic, in-your-face energy in today&#8217;s New York City, where those themes may never have felt more relevant, especially when viewed through the lens of immigration and power politics.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Lenk,\u00a0a Tony winner for\u00a0The Band\u2019s Visit,\u00a0will play Jenny, while Abud\u00a0stars as Macheath, the outlaw whose romantic entanglements and moral ambiguity ignite the story\u2019s class conflict. The cast also features Tony nominee Barbara Walsh as Polly Peachum, alongside Paula Gaudier (Paula\/Young Polly), Mahira Kakkar (Tiger Brown) and Aline Salloum (Mrs. Peachum).<\/p>\n<p>Music\u00a0director Jake Landau will oversee new orchestrations\u00a0and additional lyrics, and the show will feature choreography by Brianna Mercado\u00a0and costume designs from Raul Luna. Additional casting and the rest of the creative team will be announced at a later date.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Off-Brand Opera commissioned the adaptation from Abud, and it promises to bring a (possibly painful) new relevance to a musical that never seems to age as much as we might hope it will.
