City of Houston voters can select between 14 listed candidates and one write-in candidate in the Tuesday election.<\/p>\n<p>The seat is currently held by Letitia Plummer, who is stepping down to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khou.com\/article\/news\/local\/harris-county-judge-lina-hidalgo-election-2026\/285-442c87cc-9e82-4e78-a642-331d7192528b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">run for Harris County Judge<\/a>. This term ends in January 2028.<\/p>\n<p>If no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff election on Dec. 13 with the top two candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, city council members are elected every four years. Council members are term-limited and can only serve two terms of four years.
