{"id":356584,"date":"2025-11-05T04:09:26","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T04:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/356584\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T04:09:26","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T04:09:26","slug":"early-returns-shows-voters-divided-on-prop-409-the-valleywise-health-bond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/356584\/","title":{"rendered":"Early returns shows voters divided on Prop 409, the Valleywise Health bond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Early returns show voters across Maricopa County are divided on Proposition 409, a nearly $900 million bond that would help <a href=\"https:\/\/valleywisehealth.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Valleywise Health<\/a>, the county\u2019s public health care system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to results posted at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, there is 50.96% in favor of a bond approval, compared to 49.04% opposed, a difference of about 11,000 votes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In April, the <a href=\"https:\/\/valleywisehealth.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/plugin_files\/php\/board_meetings\/general-session\/minutes\/042425_SHCD_BOD_Minutes.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maricopa County Special Health Care District Board of Directors<\/a> voted unanimously to put a $898 million bond question in the hands of voters this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/elections.maricopa.gov\/asset\/jcr:1739a239-3ca1-4c51-86d4-bb04bcaf225a\/11-04-2014%20Final%20Summary%20Report.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">63% of voters<\/a> in Maricopa County approved a $935 million bond for Valleywise Health, which was used to build and open the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2024\/04\/04\/look-inside-phoenixs-new-taxpayer-funded-hospital\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new medical center<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials have said the money would be used to build a new 200-bed behavioral health hospital, build a new outpatient specialty center on the main campus, expand pediatric and primary care, enhance physician training, and add observation beds at the medical center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Dozens of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2025\/11\/04\/arizona-school-districts-seek-voter-approval-tax-increases\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">school districts<\/a> asking for voters to approve higher taxes to help pay for teacher salaries, school supplies, and improvements are also some of the measures in Arizona this election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">More results can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/elections.maricopa.gov\/results-and-data\/election-results.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maricopa County Elections<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/authors\/zach-prelutsky\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/authors\/zach-prelutsky\/\">Zach Prelutsky<\/a> contributed to this story through prior coverage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">See a spelling or grammatical error in our story? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/page\/send-us-your-feedback\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Please click here to report it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Do you have a photo or video of a breaking news story?
