Andrew <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/27\/us-news\/andrew-cuomo-staying-on-nyc-mayoral-election-ballot\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cuomo to drop out of New York City\u2019s mayoral race<\/a> \u2014 as he officially backed Eric Adams\u2019 bid for re-election.<\/p>\n<p>Ackman, who doled out $500,000 to Cuomo\u2019s failed Democratic primary campaign, acknowledged late Wednesday that Adams was the only one who could beat Democratic <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/01\/us-news\/full-results-of-nyc-dem-mayoral-primary-show-how-badly-zohran-mamdani-beat-andrew-cuomo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nominee\u00a0and\u00a0hard-left firebrand\u00a0Zohran Mamdani<\/a> at the polls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn short, my takeaway is that Adams can win the upcoming election and that the Governor should step aside to maximize Adams\u2019 probability of success,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/billackman\/status\/1940602849424969733\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">he said in a lengthy X post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Ackman officially backed Eric Adams\u2019 bid for re-election. Stephen Yang<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI say this while having a high regard for Andrew Cuomo and his contributions to New York State. But it was abundantly clear in his body language, his subdued energy and his proposals to beat Mamdani, that he is not up for the fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ackman,\u00a0who The Post had already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/25\/business\/bill-ackman-to-back-nyc-mayor-eric-adams-reelection-bid-source\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported would throw his support<\/a>\u00a0behind the incumbent,\u00a0said he made the call after meeting with both Adams and Cuomo at length earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that he reached his decision \u201cin light of the inability to add a new name to the ballot and the low probability of success of a write-in campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Adams\u2019 low polling numbers, the billionaire investor heaped praise on Hizzoner \u2014 calling him a \u201cgreat campaigner\u201d who could lead \u201cgrassroots efforts\u201d to take down Mamdani come November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayor Adams is ready to go to battle, guns blazing with enormous energy and clarity on why Mamdani and his socialist\/communist (We must seize the means of production) and anti-NYPD policies would be catastrophic for NYC,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImportantly, Adams is also always authentically himself \u2014 his smile is real unlike the other guys \u2014 and in my experience, the more authentic candidate always wins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ackman declared that Andrew Cuomo \u201cis not up for the fight.\u201d Matthew McDermott<\/p>\n<p>Ackman briefly referred to \u201cflaws\u201d tied to Adams\u2019 first term, including his hiring of \u201cfriends\u201d to staff his administration, but fired off a lengthy list of accomplishments that he argued proved the mayor should be re-elected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImportantly, Adams has committed to hire the best and brightest to staff his campaign and administration, and many super talented NYers have already reached out to help. Mamdani and his policies are inspiring many of our most talented citizens with relevant experience to join Eric\u2019s team,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew York City residents\u2019 top concerns are public safety, affordability, quality of life and the local economy. In all of these areas, Mayor Adams has had impressive accomplishments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It comes after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/02\/us-news\/al-sharpton-calls-on-andrew-cuomo-to-drop-out-of-nyc-mayoral-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Rev. Al Sharpton, too, called on Cuomo\u00a0to drop out<\/a> \u2014 insisting it was in the Big Apple\u2019s best interests to have a one-on-one race.<\/p>\n<p>The longtime civil rights leader\u00a0said the ex-governor had told him during a call that \u00a0he would make a decision within the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe expressed that he has received many calls mostly asking him to stay in the race. Governor Cuomo said he thought the candidate with the best chance to win should run and would make his final decision in the coming days, after looking at new data and polling, which he said he would share with me,\u201d Sharpton said in a Thursday statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said that while I would look, my position currently stands that the best option for New Yorkers is a one-on-one race between Mayor Adams and Assembly Member Mamdami.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Billionaire hedge fund titan Bill Ackman has urged a \u201csubdued\u201d former Gov.
