Republicans Leigh Wambsganss and John Huffman are splitting the Republican vote, with Wambsganss taking 40% and Huffman taking 16%.<\/p>\n<p>State lawmakers designed the district to select a Republican Senator during the last redistricting cycle, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcdfw.com\/news\/politics\/lone-star-politics\/tarrant-co-senate-distric-9-race-turns-into-larger-war\/3939760\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and big money was spent in this race<\/a> to try to elect Wambsganss, a conservative activist who works for Patriot Mobile, or Huffman, the former mayor of Southlake and a real estate developer. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0If no candidate gets the majority of the vote, the top two candidates go to a runoff election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"There is a three-person race to replace an outgoing state senator in Tarrant County.
