{"id":357269,"date":"2025-11-05T11:04:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T11:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/357269\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T11:04:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T11:04:15","slug":"mike-sullivan-hints-rangers-power-play-changes-could-be-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/357269\/","title":{"rendered":"Mike Sullivan hints Rangers power-play changes could be coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For a team having a hard time scoring goals, especially at home, the Rangers power-play failure has been even more damaging.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They entered Tuesday 0-for-9 in their previous four games with a man advantage, then went 0-for-3 in a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/04\/sports\/rangers-remain-winless-at-garden-with-loss-to-hurricanes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">3-0 loss to Carolina<\/a> at Madison Square Garden.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Making matters worse was the Hurricanes taking the lead on a power-play goal in the first period.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the loss, coach Mike Sullivan hinted that changes could be on the way for the power-play unit that\u2019s been unable to produce much of anything.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the reasons we stayed with the group we had to this point is we felt like, both from the eye test and analytically, this group has done a pretty good job as far as generating quality looks,\u201d Sullivan said. \u201cAt some point, maybe we need to make some adjustments and we\u2019ll certainly do that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the season, the Rangers have been among the worst teams in the league on the power play, and Adam Fox, part of that first power-play unit, acknowledged the recent failure and how much it\u2019s impacted the team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.35809019;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37578674\" width=\"801\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/NYP110425RANGERS14JS.jpg\" alt=\"New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox reacts while on the ice in the second period at Madison Square Garden in New York, November 04, 2025.\" class=\"wp-image-37578674\"  \/>New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox reacts while on the ice in the second period at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 4, 2025. JASON SZENES\/ NY POST<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPower plays are difference-makers,\u201d Fox said. \u201cThey get one [Tuesday]. We don\u2019t. That\u2019s the difference right there, especially early in the game.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fox called special teams \u201ca huge factor. It\u2019s definitely cost us a few games.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And Mika Zibanejad was once again left bewildered by the inability of the Rangers to come through in 5-on-4 situations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d Zibanejad said. \u201cWe keep talking about stuff we do well. We had maybe three or four grade A [chances]. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>With two days before their next game in Detroit, the Rangers have a chance to work on that aspect of their game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll tweak it,\u201d Sullivan said. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna try to do our best to find solutions and give these guys something to hang their hat on. I had some struggles throughout my years here. The ups and downs, I think, just kind of took a toll and was in my head for a lot of the time I was here.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Miller joined Carolina on a sign-and-trade, inking an eight-year deal worth $60 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe couldn\u2019t have played much better at the start,\u201d Carolina head coach Rod Brind\u2019Amour said. \u201cIt\u2019s the range. It\u2019s his skating ability. We might be almost burned, but we close it off because we got two extra feet of reach. And then his skating ability fits perfectly, getting up the ice and doing everything.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Defenseman Urho Vaakanainen was sidelined Tuesday after being held out of practice Monday with a lower-body injury.
